Inside My Off Grid Stone Barn in Central Portugal – Part 2 – The Bezzanine and Beyond!

See inside my stone barn tiny house renovation in Central Portugal and let me show you around! In part two I’ll show you my shower and bathroom space, The Bezzanine (What’s that? You’ll see!), the kitchen, the mezzanine area, my feature wall idea, the ‘window’, and my dubious lighting setup. Plus more on what it’s like to live off grid in a building site!

For such a tiny house, there seems to be a lot to talk about, I hope you like it! Please like the video, subscribe, or leave a comment if you like what you see! Thanks!

* I did my timber framing course in 2020, not 2021 and if anyone wants to learn more, check out Rancho Mastatal – It’s a truly magical place!

  1. I bought my small old stone house 5 years ago and I still don't have a shower, I just heat water on the wood stove in winter and fill a bucket and wash. I'll never have a shower, they are ugly and waste water😀

  2. Thanks once again for a hugely informative and entertaining video! The bed mezzanine is such a beautiful hand-crafted structure. I am so impressed by what you have already achieved. As usual I am going back to my much simpler, basic, projects inspired! Take Care and look forward to the next video.

  3. I love the wooden frame, you have come a long way and I was quite surprised over your other renovations. I like the blue paint but do what makes you happy always. 🌷💐🌼

  4. Hello there just a idea I think it would be better storing your Gas out side with a cut off switch when your not using your cooker I love your Bothy style house when you figure things out and make a little Pantry you have a lovely home look forward to your videos cheers by the way for got to say you have to have your chimney kept above the Ridge or you might get blow back All the best from Ireland 👍🍻

  5. Your carpentry and joinery skills are amazing. I love your tiny house. It will look amazing when completed. Look up fellow people who have moved to portugal, there is quite a lot that are doing similar renovating old barns or ruins. they may give advise or help with your window situation. ❤

  6. I think it is a gorgeous blue.. that tarp won't always be there …(the association is random, has nothing to do with the door and its setting in the long run.. lol.).. kind of reminds me of Greece but they share the same strong sunlight and so the blue stands up to it.. not like english or temperate climate light… The timber framing is truly beautiful brava! reminds of Econest that also teaches timber frame with clay and straw walls. Agree about the rocks..

  7. It is hard to live in the middle of a project and then to have a big yard to care for as well. But you’re doing it! Wise to know that one doesn’t need to learn every trade!

  8. You’ve done a wonderful job with the wood work. I’ve subscribed because I think it’s interesting what you’re doing, cobb, plastering, woodworking, the roof looks great from the inside and the pointing. Starting out pretty dang good there!

  9. For the window you need to get the lintels in, you may need help with that if you go for granite as it will need at least two people to lift them into place. You could use concrete lintels from the builders merchant or cast them yourself, then face the outer area of the lintel with stone or render, or you could use granite as a lintel which to my mind is more in keeping.

  10. Kirsty, i've worked with hand tools and it is bloody hard work! I am truly impressed with the bezzanine and the entire framing without nails etc. PLEASE include detailed videos of any other thing you build with these techniques, i love, Love, LOVE it ❤ the blue for the door is pretty, use the paint, either way you can always paint over and in the meantime it provides protection. You've become one of my fave YouTubers already because you have a great attitude, happy to try things out, learn as you go and have some great skills (timber work and cob building today) I look forward to new videos each week. Very inspirational💚💚💚

  11. I'm so impressed with the timber frame bezzanine! And the window-not-a-window story 😁 Gonna miss the Texas Chainsaw door when it's gone… Maybe get a print of it on canvas for posterity? Take care, look forward to the next one 😊

  12. I love the blue for the door. It’s a popular Mediterranean colour and would look lovely with red begonias at each side. The Portugal Project is the channel where Jasper is rebuilding his house – lots of tips on there.
Your bezanine is fab, great workmanship 👍

  13. HI Kirsty, the space is so well planned! Love the bezannine and super impressed you built that yourself. Very skilled! Love the bathroom area as well – that is pretty cool plus that you managed to put in a drain and pipe for the future basin. 🙂

  14. You are keeping me grounded! You really do have all you need. Yes to the summer relief plunge pool idea. The blue door looks fun. Cheers from B.C. 🇨🇦

  15. You do make me smile
I have craft room and my top shelf’s are just like your bezzamine once something is up there I forget what it is 🤣😂🤣😂
    😁

  16. I would have gone with a mural myself… LOL. Well I'm cleaning my yard in Portugal myself, arrived a week ago, got my old car on the road……6 months of uncontrolled growth,….Sheesh… LOL
