You want players who you might have to put out a few fires behind them. You don’t want players that you have to light a fire underneath them. This is the elite of the elite. I’m sorry to say it. If you go in the military for a few years to get it on your resume, travel a bit and get some training than that’s cool you can be a half asser, have issues, need an arm you. That’s fine. If you decide to stay on and become an officer some of those things change. You can’t really be a half asser anymore, better keep your issues to yourself and now it’s your job to put the arm around someone. If you go on to be a fighter pilot or a submarine captain the criteria gets even tighter. My point is in any walk of life at the pinnacle of the profession you should not have a lazy ass who can’t be bothered that needs a cuddle. Sorry talented or not you do not belong at the highest end of the game. And perhaps that’s the source of his angst. Maybe he just doesn’t have the heart for it but due to his talent he’s been essentially promoted into a position that he’s not fully capable of.
