I earned my Medical Degree from UC Irvine and completed my residency in Dermatology at UCLA. Upon completing my residency, I joined the full-time faculty at UCLA as a Clinical Instructor and Professor in Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery. I then went on to complete advanced fellowship training in Dermatologic Surgery at UC Davis and Cosmetic Dermatology at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Northern California with world-renowned expert, Dr. Suzanne Kilmer. After fellowship, I was appointed the Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Northern California where I remained active in clinical trials and have been on the forefront of the latest advances in aesthetics and dermatology. As an Orange County native, I love the SoCal community and currently enjoy being a Dermatologist in Newport Beach, CA.

My areas of expertise include cosmetic dermatology with a focus on injectable neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin), as well as dermal fillers (Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Sculptra, Restylane, Belotero, and Radiesse). In addition, I travel nationally and internationally where I teach other physicians injection techniques and about the latest advances in dermatology. I am highly-trained in the use of lasers and energy-based devices to treat all aspects of photoaging, including fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, brown spots and facial vessels. I offer a comprehensive approach to body contouring with the use of minimally-invasive procedures. In addition, I specialize in Dermatologic Surgery including Mohs micrographic surgery, blepharoplasty, skin cancer excisions, sclerotherapy, surgical earlobe repair and cosmetic tattoo excisions.

  1. Hello Dr Kappel! I really enjoyed watching your videos. The first time I watched your video I already hit the subscribe button. Your content videos really helps me to understand on what ingredients to look on skincare products. You help us to educate the science and technology about skin condition as well. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! By the way, may I ask if Avene products are ok to use for anti-aging and acne? Like Avene Retrinal Day Cream, Avene Cleanance blemish control serum and others. Please kindly advice.

  2. Dr. Kappel, wondering what you think of BBL ? . I had it done a few times for pigment spots but now I have some scars from it. They are not terrible but I feel like why did I even have that done! I would rather have the pigment than a scar.

  3. Yo are amazing!! I have been following you for over 2 years, and now have learned so much about skin! Your products have already made a difference to my skin, and I can’t say enough about how next level they are! ♥️♥️

  4. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us, and for being honest about what's going on in the industry… it's crazy how companies with money think all doctors can be bought…it reminds of something else that's been going on lately that I can't write about here…it starts with a V 🙂

Will you please educate us on how to choose the right dermatologist or nurse to perform any laser procedure and also Thermage, what question do we need to ask to make sure they are qualified? I wish I lived closer to you but if you can recommend anyone in Atlanta, I'm all ears! 🙂

  5. Hi! I think you mentioned that biotin can mask heart conditions. I don’t have a heart condition (though it does run in my family), but I just realized I’ve been taking biotin supplements and having low blood pressure at the same time. I know you can’t give medical advice, so just as a general comment lol, did you mean that biotin has been linked to low blood pressure?

  6. I have a question about sun exposure in tropical areas. Before the pandemic my husband and I travelled to Bali every couple of months. We haven’t gone since, but will start again this year. Coincidentally, I started on a skincare journey 2 years ago. My skin has improved sooo much from medical grade skincare and lasers. Now that we are planning our upcoming trip I find myself slightly panicked that all my hard work will be ruined once I’m in a hot, sweaty climate and swimming in the ocean. I struggle with freckles and melasma. What are your tips for keeping my skin looking great while still enjoying the tropics?? We go for a month at a time and even riding the motorbike around is direct sun. Thank you!!! ❤️

  7. Is a vbeam laser the same as laser Genesis.? I recently had laser Genesis treatment for my type 1 hypersensitive rosacea and it did nothing other than make me flare worse and make my skin barrier worse than it already was.

  8. Hello! Thank you for sharing your unbiased knowledge with us. Question: long term solution for malar edema/festoons? 52, basically no lines or wrinkles, I keep up on my skincare but have malar edema….super frustrating.

  9. Thank you so much Dr. Kappel for always sharing your knowledge. I love your new product line. They absorb so quickly into the skin and the formulation is so elegant and silky. ❤
