Losing my Ryanair Virginity

It’s finally happened! After many years of waiting I finally took the plunge and lost my Ryanair virginity!

My first ever Ryanair flight was between Venice and Fes. Which demonstrates perfectly the value and advantage of low cost carriers such as Ryanair and their ability to link secondary cities.

This Ryanair flight review – entitled Losing my Ryanair Virginity – covers the entire process from booking to checkin to boarding, the inflight experience and landing in Fes.

As this was my first Ryanair experience I ticked all the boxes and took all the optional extras. This gave me a flexible ticket, in person check-in, extra luggage and priority boarding and seating. I even pre-ordered my inflight meal!

So join me as I experience the very best that Ryanair has to offer on this Ryanair Flight Review.

Flight Date: 24 May 2022

  1. Dennis Bunnik- the first person to receive dine on demand onboard a Ryanair flight.
Seriously though, you were much more patient with that supervisor than he deserved. Surely if you’ve deigned yourself ruler of all pre booked in flight meals, you’d check the manifest at least once. What a tool

  2. I'm up to 84 flights now with Ryanair, and continue to be pleased each time I fly with them. Once you understand the system and know how it works, it really makes each trip enjoyable.
Also to add, in 84 flights with them since 2015 I have yet to have 1 single flight delayed by 3+ hours (which would enable me to EU261 compensation).
Worst delay I have ever had was 2h 57 min from Port to Lisbon.

  3. Ryanair are great – as long as you know exactly what you're doing, can fit in precisely with their policies, and can follow their rules. If you can do that, you'll get a perfectly acceptable flight to wherever you're going. But step outside those constraints even one little bit, and your day will get very bad!

  4. Ryan Air is a decent airline if you don't add any extras and abide by their cabin luggage rules.

Food is dreadful and staff strict but it's cheap and cheerful and they set the price bench-mark for low cost travel.

  5. As much as I give crap to AirAsia, they do low cost regional much better. No attitude when it comes to meals and even though seats may be similar, the service is far better. They even do proper hot meals on 2hr flights.

  6. "Turns out Ryanair don't have a lounge at Treviso" – best comedy…. ever!

Ryanair catering, well in fairness 12 Euros for a beef or vegan lasagne or a green curry + wine or beer + a snack, is far less than you'd pay on the ground. I like that their vegan range is PETA endorsed and Lavazza onboard is good. Almost no one pre-orders food, so crew do forget, but I've only ever had to show my boarding pass to crew carrying out the BOB trolley and it's never been an issue. Generally now-a-days I find their cabin crew work hard and are professional enough.
Don't bother with the extras, although Fast Track is useful at this time of security staff shortages. Check in online as their app is quite easy and they have an excellent system for COVID documentation. Priority boarding just means you queue longer (stay seated at the gate until you can see people actually boarding).

  7. Some time ago, just before covid, I flew with Ryanair and attempted to buy a nice inflight coffee. It took about an hour for the crew to work out how much it cost and how I was going to pay for it, after receipt. The shenanigans over this quite spoilt my enjoyment of the excellent coffee. I promised myself never to use Ryanair inflight catering again. This aside, I don't mind flying with Ryanair, not bad, if you can put up with their foibles!

  8. I've flown Ryanair many times between Venice Treviso to see my sister in Bremen after spending a few days in Venice (which is always beautiful). Was so nice and convenient to be able to fly direct point to point like that, and remarkable that such a service is available and at such a low cost.

One time on Ryanair we had a pilot who had a very heavy accent that made him sound a lot like Borat. He made all the ladies giggle every time he made an announcement on the intercom. Just after we had passed through some turbulence so he said "Ladies and gentlemen now it is safe to make your seatbelt open".

But in any case the world always seems nicer after you have spent a few relaxing days in Venice.

  9. Hahaha. I also recently lost my RyanAir virginity when my flight to Vienna from Cologne was booked by someone else. You handled it well. Not sure I could do more than an hour, but it certainly wasn't as terrible as I had imagined. On my flight the passenger in front of me ordered a full hot meal, including lasagne…. which finally arrived just as the Fasten Seatbelts and prepare to Land announcement came on…. lovely review Dennis!

  10. From one Adelaide boy to another, you got guts. I've heard so many horror stoiries about Ryanair. Have you flown Spirit Dennis? Apparently the most hated airline over here in the US.

  11. Never buy food on Ryanair. Always take it with you.
Ryanair are generally rude, but it is cheap and gets you from a to b. If you don’t buy anything and take some antibacterial wipes with you they are usually ok.

  12. Somebody told Mr Ryan that it costs nothing to be courteous….that got him thinking and he added a box to the booking screen which you seem to have forgotten to check in all your excitement 😁

  13. I flew both Ryanair and Easy Jet when I went to Europe, and Easy Jet was the winner for me. I would fly Ryanair again however, I mean you can't complain with 28 euro airfares. I know Australia is a much bigger place than Europe, but our low cost carriers aren't even that low cost when compared to the European ones.

  14. Due to very often delays and cancellations, I was rather paying more on regular carriers. Now after I see how top paying customer has a treatment, I know I will awoid Ryanair even harder.
