Making Metal Framework Structure Around Old Portuguese Stone House | It’s Hot #69

The Roof has to be done quick and it’s heating up. First the framework needs building and once that’s all constructed we’ll be ready to board up and poor the concrete. Can we get this project back on schedule?

Thanks for watching and all your support.

  1. The other neighbors in the village look like they have very nice looking houses. I guess you were not able to get some good referrals from the people near the stone house? Also, a tile roof on a 1,400 sq. ft. home in Southern California costs 9,000 dollars–What is the cost for a the roof on the house that you are working on? But I do like the look of the insulated roof that you are going to put on.

  2. We did our roof like that because of earthquake problems here in Greece. Thank god we did as later in the year we did have a big quake and the new roof held up very well. Not the walls sadly…

  3. Your moving along pretty quickly on that rebuild, mind you I noticed that your not too fond of the new Portuguese generation help lol. Just saw that someone in another channel walked into your new house 😬 but then noticed it’s your brothers channel lmao. They don’t speak much ? Lol. Freakin cool having your brother live next to you in another country.

  4. Hi Andy, love your videos. I have a gift I want to send to you. Do you have a P.O. Box address. I did send message via Facebook, not sure if you saw it . Helen in Australia

  5. Great video's. Not easy keeping it positive but you guys look like you know what you're doing. Can you explain how you stop a crew that has started work? How do you manage payment, are you ever working alongside, are there contracts? Also for this major house work done in the Algarve do you need a contractor to sign off on your work or you can do what you want?
Keep it up, looking forward to more

  6. A rebar hi andy fantastic job on the rebar, nice to have some electric in the house will make it easier the tiles on the steps look great.when I was living in China I used to watch them on the construction sites with the rebar they were super fast.that metal insulated metal tiled effect roofing is used a great deal in China quick and easy to fit and cheap to buy not a bad choice will look nice too.another great video.

  7. Consider building all your “box beams” in just straight lengths, and do the corners separately. This will save some time and effort and is just as structurally efficient. Really enjoying you guys working so well together. Do the local towns people understand the value you bring to this community?

  8. You are made great progress on the house Andy. I appreciate it’s frustrating not being able to rely on support workers as the delay ties up your money for longer than either of you would wish. It I bet you’ll have a better house in the end and I hope the payback will be worth the input. Mighty workers the pair of you.

  9. Andy, you're a scream. Yes, quizzically raising eyebrows. It's difficult to find reliable, responsible tradesmen and building workers, in any country but especially out there in rural areas. It's good to be so talented that you can diversify when things go wrong. Watching with keen interest. Keep up the good work. 👏

  10. Another great video Andrew. So different than building here in Canada where wood rules!!! I am looking forward to seeing how you pour and set the concrete for the roof. So if you use the sandwich boards that should give you better insulation as well. In any case, purist or not, you won’t be able to see the roof the way it is lined up. Window wells look amazing. Still not sure on the overall plan, will go back and review the video where you talk about it. Keep at it!!!

  11. Andrew what’s up friend ? Love watching these videos but moving that buss all the time is making my blood rise it always looks like your gonna run over a small tree or it’s just gonna die lol. But keep doing your thing cus we are all watching. Next video send me a shoutout pls lol it’s cool watching a video then seeing that you replied. ✌🏼✌🏼☮️

  12. Thank you for another great video from my and my wife's favourite channel. With regards the property you are developing, the current and intended layout seems a tad confusing at times, so a cheeky request, any chance of a plan some time? All the best. Glad you enjoyed your beers.

  13. Hi Andy, that sounds like a good plan. I don't think your roof is visible to the neighbours so the sandwich board roof will get you watertight and cool inside quickly. I assume you could also use a sandwich board to give a quick weather tight roof and where necessary add battens and tiles on top where the visual aspect is important. In some ways an expensive double roof but if it would allow fast progress in the summer months so interior work progresses quickly. It would need extra support beams but might solve a challenge I think I will have. 🤔🤔

  14. Ach man you make my heart sing just love your approach to this building process – the sandwich board roofing I’ve seen on other properties seems the most logical way ahead – having insulated roof with less maintenance I imagine would appeal to buyers
Wondering if you’re getting curious neighbours commenting ? I imagine they’ll be pleased that the house is coming back to life.
Thanks for your as ever upbeat video 👏
Windows and steps looking just braw James lol

  15. Good move on the roof sheets Andy .When I rebuilt my farmhouse some 35 years ago now ,just north of Loule ,material such as this did not exist in the Algarve . .So it was concrete ring beam and then concrete roof beams and infill hollow blocks then membrane and then the traditional pan tiles

An improvement on the original Eucalyptus rafters and bamboo decking ,which looks beautiful but can be bug heaven and will rot, if it gets damp ,where the rafters go into the rock walls as well .
At the time I was worried about the weight we were putting on the top of the old farmhouse Rock walls when the original roofs were much lighter bamboo ,Eucalyptus poles ,no membrane and mostly loose tiles (Those roofs always leak ! As the traditional biscuit fired pan tiles are (a) Porous and (b) crack and break easily )But Thirty years later my roofs are still good and the walls have not moved .Regular maintenance and cleaning of gullies etc is essential to keep everything water tight .But if I was doing it now I would definitely use the Tile profile metal sandwich board you propose .Lighter ,quicker to install ,less labour intensive ,will last indefinitely .Better insulation values ,and maintenance free .In a few seasons verdigris lichen etc will grow on it and it will look like any other clay tile roof .
Keep hydrated Andy .Roof work is punishing in the heat ,that’s why I don’t do it now !
Dehydration can lead to dizziness as well as a few beers ! Agua Pedras is a better bet for electrolyte replacement .
It’s great watching your progress as it takes me back 30 years to when I was going through the same process and dealing with all the same familiar issues .cheers .
