Good info, thx! Any towns/areas you would suggest inland/central?
We've been looking at PT a few years & would like to permanently become part of the community, with all that goes with it, & hopefully bring opportunity even if it's not major.
My wife is in healthcare. I study sustainable PassivHaus techniques & have designs/ideas, so we won't be buying dwellings that could be home to a local family. I'd like expansive land & to allow others free use of it for permaculture growing, but we'll have to start small… 8000m2/2ac outside a small town with a nice mountain view would be great! With any luck, I might even one day have the opportunity to offer my designs to others. These concepts are not profitable in the US, where waste is accepted & perceived value is in shiny things, so we're not rich, lol.
I see many people on youtube who only look to Portugal as a means to cheap-out vs their homeland, and/or make money at the expense of quality of life for locals… it deeply bothers me. Anything we can do to return the favor to a country who offers us so much, just seems reasonable & responsible, ya know?
Such a good video. Do you have a podcast? Would love to hear you talk more about these topics.
Great video! Thank you for sharing the real estate in Lisbon. I noticed it is getting expensive to purchase in Lisbon. I wonder it is because the expats have money purchased condos or homes at a high cost that hurts people like myself. I didn’t know about mold. Thank you.
Thank you for this candid information. I will take this to heart.
Thank you for another informative video. I've been wondering about mold, damp and older buildings. I haven't seen any "HOA" fees for apartments and have wondered who pays for upkeep. Can you enlighten a bit on that? Been weighing buying new vs renovating and now leaning towards new or newer. I'm concerend about build quality, insulation and noise as we haven't lived in a condo for over 30 years and no longer want the upkeep of a free standing home. Arriving in Braga early January for the entire month to see if we want to live there and to explore the country. I'd like to have something that we own to move into. I really enjoy your practical videos, they have been most helpful.
Joic- Thanks~ incredible footage.:)
Another informative and excellent video by Joric. 🙏🏻 While the news is not always the best, I’d rather know ahead of time than not. Yeah, comparing Lisbon to NY and SF is not good news. I have no interest in leaving one rat race just to join another. 🐀 I previously noted that Lisbon is sounding more-and-more shaky from our perspective given the hills, flight path, and potential high rents. We’re on the verge of our second scouting trip (BTW—avoiding Lisbon’s airport) so we’ll give it and surrounding areas a good look. It only makes sense to have a “Plan B” ready should things not work out for us. BTW—how are those humidifiers working for you? Cheers. 👋
