  1. Ladder snake!! The ladder snake is a medium-sized snake which reaches a maximum total length (including tail) of around 160 cm (63 in) but which averages 120 cm (47 in). It has a pointed snout. As an adult the ladder snake is less variable than many related snake species, the basic colour goes from yellowish to dark brown, with two darker stripes running down the length of the body from neck to tail. It normally also has a dark stripe running from the rear of the eye to the angle of the jaw and sometime subtle, darker markings on the sides. The ventral side is pale, varying from a silvery-grey to whitish, with the occasional dark spot. The eye is dark. The juvenile snakes have lighter and brighter colouration, varying from yellow to light brown, with the characteristic “ladder” pattern picked out in black along the upperside. The pale underside has black markings which sometimes coalesce to cover the whole of the underside. As the snake ages these colours and patterns fade until the simpler adult pattern is left. Non Venomous

  2. Thanks so much for taking time to create video – you were about to mention make of Paint brand but then got a bit distracted. I’ve tried several different paints over here (albeit internal walls) & not been overly impressed. What make did you use for external walls please? Many thanks or should I say…Obrigado!.

  3. The paint job must be so satisfying. I’ll jump on the grey bandwagon, a dark shade. What kind of render was used before? Just asking because it seems to have held up well.

  4. What a transformation this week. Such fun following along…until the snake. Will take me the whole week ahead just to recover before next weeks video. I like the all white house. A suggestion – use the beautiful tiles in floors, table tops, trays, etc., the solid white backdrop will ground everything else you find of character and interest to adorn. You have a busy and meandering home and I’m wondering if adding another color in a horizontal stripe will add to its charm. Do you think the Portuguese painted the bottom of their houses a darker color to hide natures dirt wash?

  5. Hi Zac and Ginny…love the progress. I noticed Zac was wearing a Gas Monkey Garage T-shirt. Cracked me up, I was there a couple years ago…cool place. I also, agree with the idea of some tiles on the outside. Recently, on our family vacation, we bought decorative tiles in Tomar, at the Convento de Cristo. We plan to put the tiles in our kitchen backslash. It's nice to see Ted has calmed down. He looks much more relaxed. Take care you two, can't wait for the next update. 🙂👍

  6. A big step for mankind having your own washing machine ..the walls look great with a coat of paint on…I love living in Portugal but don't like the snakes although we live very rural haven't seen any this year so far they are not life threatening but I think they can give you a bite x

  7. The house looks so much better painted & it looks cared for. And patching up the cracks will help push out how soon you need to redo the lime plaster. I would have done the same.

A washing machine is definitely a priority for me. What a time saver! I would have bought one too.

Non-venomous snakes don't bother me (& I like how they eat mice & other pests), as long as they stay outside.

  8. I don't know how your walls are built. But I think just regular stucco or mortar would have been a good choice. Lime or portland based as determined by the existing wall.

A good trowel will help also.

    Great video today.

  9. The scruffy bit is to protect the white paint from the splash back of heavy winter rains, which I hope return to Portugal. Don’t want to overrule the wife but that us why they are scruffier and not white.

  10. If you get biodegradable soap you direct your grey water to a non food plant bed. And if it isn't big enough, yoi could make a little channel to garden bed (the first being the filter for the second). Take advantage of the stage you are in to do this; plumbing to sewage or septic is too late.

  11. YOU LOOK MUCH RELAXED, GINNY IN YOUR NEW PLACE…AND EVERYTHING IS COMING ALONG NICELY, ZACK WILL MAKE IT A LOVELY HOME FOR YOU & TEDDY SEEMS TO BE SETTLING DOWN & LIKING THE NEW YARD…ALL THE BEST, 🙏;)
