OPENING UP A XISTO WALL (and buying stuff to learn welding) – Portuguese House Renovation

We are in the middle of renovating our house in an abandoned Portuguese village. In this episode i am going shopping with Alex for a welder and a large grinder. Alex is going to teach me how to weld in the next episode, but today i learn what stuff i need to buy to be able to weld. After the shopping Alex is helping me to further open up the Xisto wall. Alex is showing me how the Portuguese put in framing. In the next episode we make the rest of the framing for the window!

My name is Jasper and i bought a house in a Portuguese ghost town. Together with my dogs Zoey& Akira we show you the rebuild of our house en what it is like living the daily life in Central Portugal.

  1. Hi Jasper. Like so many other subscribers and Youtubers there seems a genuine feeling of goodwill in sharing knowledge and keeness to help out. I was intreagued with the clamps used on the window project. I wonder if you and Alex could take time out to expand on the tecniques and filming of the stages of this type of building work. As I am coming to my house not too far away from Castello Branco in early May. One of my first jobs is opening a wall for French doors, using the tecniques that Alex is sharing with you. The clamps he used for holding the wood in place (I think he called them seajunas, or something. Are these ready available in Castelo Branco, and if so would Maxmat sell them. I will watch with interest as this stage of your project is of particular interest. Keep up the good work.Steve

  2. Alex is a top fella and will be producing some great products soon and has a wealth of knowledge. Our local bar was outside so people didn't have to wear a mask but to be honest most people do. We have a new restaurant opening in the village this week so you should both come and try it out. It is all about helping each other out with the skills we uniquely possess.

  3. Are you aware of YouTubers in Central Portugal they have a channel called the Indy project. I believe they're an hour out of Costello Blanco. They're converting an old bond into a tiny home. Might be good to hook up with them.

  4. Hi Jasper, you have a good friend and mentor in Alex a man with skills and knowledge. Sorry the weather is wet, better rain than snow. This video was a joy to watch, thanks for sharing. Another job ticked off your list. Stay safe, have a good weekend. 👍

  5. VERY INTERESTING WATCHING THIS WINDOW OPERATION…GREAT TO SEE ALEX OUT THERE HELPING PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY…THAT'S THE WAY IT'S DONE…ALL THE BEST TO THE BOTH OF YOU, BLESSINGS, VANCOUVER, CANADA…;)

  6. What a day you had with Alex to guide you! This'll be so helpful to rewatch for you and others wanting to do similar work. Alex is so knowledgeable and clever, he brings a craftsman's approach to his various projects, so it's super nice to have him beside you to talk through the work. Another good vlog, Jasper.
