  1. I use hemp hay or straw for coop area its great for mite control. After harvesting veggie patch I let the girls turn it all over for at least a week they are great at getting out all the bugs 🐛

  2. It looks so idilic but I also know it is hard work when it is hot. Liked your gate system on the Coop and what another viewer called, a " Taranaki Gate ". Nice story to it as well. As far as your chicken wire gate goes, if it works why change it? Just improve it with better materials that will last longer. Loved the video and I look forward to many many more. Thank you both, ever so much.

  3. This was so calming, entertaining and educational! The thing is: this is the way all people should live! Watching this takes me away from the craziness of city life. You really did make a great choice moving to Portugal! Love it! ❤️😀🇨🇦

  4. Branches weaved together make a really cool garden fence. It’s functional decorative you can be as artistic as you want and sometimes they actually grow into new trees or shrubs.

  5. Here is a tip from an old chicken farmer if you keep the drinkers for you chickens at the height of their backs they will enjoy their water a lot more, if you notice when they drink they must put their heads back to swallow so if the drinker is at the proper height there won’t be debris in it and there won’t be spillage.

  6. Good luck keeping the chickens out of the potatoes with that fence. 🤣 once they get a taste for the potato beds they will be back. We now have a 2 meter high fence round our veggie garden. So far so good. 😊 Love watching your videos. I’m learning a lot from you guys 👍🏻

  7. Hang those water containers and feeders from a chain off the ground and they will stay cleaner. I used dog chains with the clips . She may be laying out in the yard, you will probably find a pile of eggs under a bush somewhere .

  8. Everything looks so great! Thank you for sharing your experience!
I am only thinking of having hens and now in a process of designing my own custom built coop. Wanted to ask, how does this coop and hens survive rain seasons? How do you prevent the wood from rotting? Also, do you need to warm up the coop somehow during the winter?

  9. I find Watering my garden at Dusk when the sun is going down and the plants will Absorb more water. and it gives the plants and nice start to the morning. People Who Water during the day when the sun is up will loose a lot of the water from Evaporation

  10. Hello from not too far away. Your chickens do you both credit. They are fabulously healthy, curious, make the right contented noises, and lay well produced and complete eggs. I once kept hundreds of chickens of many different breeds. The house is the heart of your success, carefully considered in design and well constructed. My only question would be diet. I did not see any branded food that contains Amprolium Coccidiostat. You might also put it in their water. I loath the use of drugs but having seen chickens suffer with coccidiosis I know how important this is.

  11. Congratulations on all the hard work, as I have shared before I am from 🇵🇹 , and have seen and heard that you can collect the 🦑 squids or cuttlefish bones that One can find on the beach for feeding them calcium rich dietary, if are ever walking on the beach side You can collect them
