When we saw this off-grid boulder house in Portugal, we just had to rent it. Visiting the village of Monsanto in rural Portugal has been a bucket list experience we’ve wanted to check off the list for a long time.
Now it finally happened, and we couldn’t have loved it more. Monsanto is an incredible and fairy-tale like place everyone should visit.
The off-grid boulder house we rented was the perfect place to stay while exploring the area. Our rental came complete with a wood-burning stove, a cozy living area, and a kitchen stocked with all the essentials.
Even though it’s off-grid, we didn’t need to think extra about electricity usage and so on. It was like living in a normal home, but in a much more magical environment.
We highly recommend renting an off-grid boulder house in Portugal – it’s an experience you won’t forget!

Did you know that the next Game of Thrones was filmed at Monsanto?
This place can be very hot in Summer. When we where there, we were lucky to find a public swimming pool on the way to Penha Garcia.
The story of the food been throwing at the enemy during a siege is not from Monsanto but from Moncao, up in the North West, during the early wars with Spain (Galicia & Leon). But maybe the folks in Monsanto did it firs. Who knows. Lol.
I bet you also visited Sortelha. Near Monsanto Penha Garcia is also nice. They have a lake beach.
This place will show up in the House of the Dragon tv show
My husband, son and I enjoyed our visit to Monsanto. The interesting houses built among or roofs half-hidden under boulders caught our eyes.
What a lovely place you have.
Very beautiful place 😘
Hey guys where have you been, I have missed your videos. What an interesting place a must for my 🪣 bucket list. By the way, having spotted a tear in Amelie’s 👁 eye, I’ve followed her on Instagram. 😎🍷🚍⚓️🇬🇧
Onde fica obrigado
Your guys visuals are epic! Love love your vlog content! Thank you both!
so beautiful! hope to visit there one day! as always love the humor guys! I giggled several times xx
You guys need to stop thinking you are fat! Seriously. I've seen your first videos and I can tell you right now that you look the BEST. Our world wants curvy now, not stick skinny. And I doubt you have any pooch on either of you at all. Meaning, that I highly doubt you have much stomach to grab. Seriously, you guys both look amazing, so stop!
Awesome video, I have visited Monsanto many times, in the summer. Great video showing this unique place in Portugal.
Essas casas parecem uma forma de habitação camuflada, de forma a se protegerem contra invasores.
Wow 💚 that place is really cool.
☺️💚❤️ Amazing
😂😂😂😂 that Steve Carrel had me in stitches!!! Thank you for showing me things about my country I didn’t have the chance to visit yet! Also just followed Amelie on IG!
Old Portuguese women! They don’t make them like that anymore!!!
What an absolutely gorgeous place and superb video. Thank you! Looks like I have another place to visit on my next trip to Portugal.
Such a cool place to visit and the accommodations were very nice, and very unique. Stay safe guys.
You know what I find magical as a Portuguese? Is to look into Monsanto and many other villages like that and see my roots, the Lusitanian Calaic roots. There’s very little differences between what we find in Monsanto or Sortelha and the the hundreds of archeological “castros” all over the northern part of Portugal. And looking at a small village in the 21st century we are looking back as far as 200BC and even before. It’s such a privilege.
Espectacular ..
A small village, made of stone, in a peculiar/difficult place, surrounded by enemies, resisting to everything – even time. It can't be more portuguese than that! That and the traditional architecture, and the castle, and the stones, and specially the people, that was what made the legend of the "aldeia mais portuguesa de Portugal" – where the hostess cooks for the guests like if they where family. And in a certain way, they are. You are. Belo vídeo!
Uma vez mais de parabéns casal🥇👏🥂🙏
how did you get up there? i know what northern Portugal is like , no joke… thanks for going there !
