We take the ferry from Plymouth to Santander and drive across Spain before arriving home on the farm to find things are not all that comfortable, there is a lot to do before we can weather the winter.

We are John, Tara, Crusoe and Sawyer Newby. A family of explorers who’s taken root in Northern Portugal where we’re renovating an abandoned farm into our dream off-grid homestead.

On and off, we have been traveling for over 20 years and have explored more than 160 of the world’s 193 countries, it’s been quite a journey, and now we are sharing our adventures weekly here on YouTube with new episodes EVERY SUNDAY.

BE BRAVE – THINK BIG – EXPLORE
Because we believe that lines across a map are more important than numbers in the bank.

Thanks so much for watching!!!

  1. Welcome back to your home¡ Now you will have lots of works to do there.
I would like to tell you that you should put some curtains to the windows at home to stop the echo when you are inside and speaking. 😉

  2. Welcome back to your lovely Portugal farm!! I'm excited to see what's happened since you left for England and hoping you can soon figure out your water problems! PS: Here in Maine, we have a cable-stayed bridge such as the one you crossed in Portugal (22.04 mark). It's called the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and is the tallest public bridge observatory in the world (there's an elevator in one of the tall towers to take you up to the observatory at the top!).

  3. Crusoe knew exactly where he was when he got out of the car. He was so happy to be home. Congrats Mom and Dad. I can’t believe how well Tara is getting along since have major surgery.

Crusoe and Sawyer are going to grow up loving all things on the farm.

    Welcome Home

  4. As always, I learn so much watching your vlog❤. Today it was visas and ferry rides. John, at minute 29, as you’re waiting for Caruso to catch up, there are “L” shaped supports along the left side of the path. What is/was their purpose?

  5. Loved your video …first, congratulations on your new baby boy!
I really like your videos for exactly some of the reasons stated…they are real, show how life can be messy , tiresome, dirty, frustrating and yes also beautiful. Who want to watch a show where one can’t connect or see people as real with everyday issues and problems and taking on those exact issues and trying to solve them as best they can.
I also appreciate that you are keeping truthful (yet keeping certain things private) as even though we are being invited into your lives no one watching wants to be duped or given false stories or hyped up click bait headlines in order to increase views…in the end that leaves a bad taste.
I wish you all the best in your adventures.
Crusoe’s little small and happy walkabout said everything about how he feels about his home!

  6. Loving your feelings and thinking moments, you connect me me to my own…time is by moments, special moments that really make meaning in our life …Moments, special events, our loving ones store in our heart and mind…meaning for it all 💫🤗💝💯kkk… don’t forget OBRIGADA for you lady and OBRIGADO amor your sir…kkkk…very good word to get started with… por favor …please …pois não…sure, for nothing and similar ones…

  7. Yeah! you're home, what a journey with two little ones. Finger crossed you and get the water situation sorted. So excited to see you strat some new projects. Hope the little ones are over their colds. X

  8. Welcome the Newby,s I was beaming from ear to ear as much as John at the anticipated arrival back home. fabulous update and can’t wait for what’s to come. Your two boys are precious.

  9. Welcome back to your home. Good luck with your arrival and tidying up. Looks like your little explorer is happy to be home. Hope the water isn’t too much of an issue.
    Cheryl xoxo

  10. Welcome back! It's always such a pleasure to share those moments with you! I can't stop smiling when I'm watching you, it makes my day, thanks so much (so in love with Crusoe!)!

  11. You guys have such a cute family!! Congratulations on your new baby, love his red hair!! I started watching your videos because I took a DNA test and I found that I was 30% Portuguese. It was a big surprise since I thought I only had mostly spaniard plus some other European dna but my dna turned out really interesting. I hope to visit Portugal next year.
Enjoy your babies, they are so precious!
    Well wishes from Southern California

  12. Welcome back Newbys! It was so precious to see Crusoe running and saying bamboo! 😊I'm so sorry about water prob, such a hassle with two babies 😱, but you will sort it out. 🙏💪💗

  13. glad the 4 of you are back .safe and happy. firstly. have you any idea why the farm was abandoned. do your neighbours have trouble with their water supply. if not why not. i think for the long term you will need an expert to sort it out and not just an every day plumber. you cannot possibly live there with an ongoing water supply problem. also did you list your priorities from the beginning. storage as an example. your wifes need comes before your needs ha ha thats life. hope my message is constructive and not to offend you in any way. love you as a family and love your journey.

  14. Crusoe is so pleased to be home. He is definitely an outdoor boy. Gosh, he has grown up and is beginning to speak very well for his age. Welcome little Sawyer to your home, a house that is full of love. Cannot wait to see the different projects you plan to do. Hope you have tamed that pesky water supply.

  15. Welcome home Newbys it's good to have you back…abit disappointing about your water but hey you are both survivors it will be sorted 😊 I am sure..we certainly have had some long awaited rain storms but promising sun is coming again we have had small issues with our electricity has we are off grid too but it will be resolved soon I hope…cant wait to see your next project under way…once again welcome home xxx
