Part 4 of the Outhouse build and I manage to get the floor, front cladding and roof done, and I build my own door! I’m building a dual outhouse that will contain an outdoor dry toilet as well as a shower as an interim solution while I renovate my farm structure.
Enjoying the journey? Consider buying me a cup of coffee or a roof tile to help save up for the new roof 🙂
About Girl Meets Farm:
I’m Christine. I started this journey in search of my forever farm in Portugal, and now I have found it!
This is my adventure as a solo expat on a farm in Central Portugal with my two fur-kids, Shakti & Shiva.
I’ve never owned or lived on a farm, but moved to Portugal in the hope of fulfilling a life-long dream of finding open space, subsistence farming and a safer, better life.
Now that we have found our farm, the second stage of our journey begins!
I have to figure out farm life while renovating an agricultural structure to make it habitable and turn it into a comfortable home for me and my furkids.
Thank you for joining our journey!

I'll give you an A for effort! Just a thought but, wouldn't it of been cheaper and easier to buy a ready made shed?
Great.. Your amazing.. I'm learning carpentry here also as I help my father building his own small home. 😊😊🏡🏡💞💞💞
Don’t be so hard on yourself great job for first attempt……it’s all useable…..well done
❤️❤️❤️
Aww well done! It's a great job you have done there, it serves a purpose and looks fab!
Well done 🙂 embrace the uniqueness of your creation !! I like the transition to 'screws' 🙂
Each build will be easier than the last. No one was born being able to hammer in nails or use a screwdriver. I really liked the boards you added to the door, very artistic. You saw a problem and came up with a great fix. Well done!
😯Se ve el esfuerzo que has hecho, 💪
It looks to me very much like our laminate flooring in the UK. I wish you luck!!
The outhouse seems a bit fr from the main dwelling, is it?
I love that you never gave up or gave in and got help. You did an amazing job. We always learn from our mistakes.
Wow this is great. The door worked 👍👍👍👍
Well well, you did great work girl💪!! Do you need to treat the wood against moisture? Mounting a bit of chickenwire in the ventilation slit would keep the critters out🤗🤗🤗
Hi Chris, great job on the build very impressed, master builder and roofer now, proud of you, love your enthusiasm, wow that was a big word for me. If your drilling plastic or tiles put masking tape over where you are going to drill, it stops cracking. Lots of ❤️ Tony UK PS plumber next can’t wait to see xx
🌟👏👍🍀💐
A door is only for privacy, and for opening and closing….yours covers both bases,no matter how 'On the piss' it is :o)
💕Well done ready for the rain💕
Good work, pat yourself on the back. You built your own outhouse. The sky is the limit now:-)
Well done Christine, for someone who has not built a structure before I think you did a great job. Congratulations 👏
Victory is yours.
What camera you use ? And microphone? Thanks
Well done 👏! Ñ boer maak ñ plan!
Bravo!
Good job! It’s so cute!
More thought in the project?
Slant the roof and collect rain water and use it to wash your hands, and afterwards to water your garden.
And… build a work table by first building "saw horses" and finding old doors (or similar) to serve as a work surface.
Building on the ground just seems hard and begs errors.
Then I saw her purchased small work table (?). !
Then I saw the "saw horse" in the background …. SHE HAD A WORK TABLE yet built on the ground.
Not trying to be nasty… but helpful, as so many other subscribers heaped praise.
It looks beautiful and functional! Bravo!!🤗
Your own house looks just fine you did it on your own you did a wonderful job not knowing even what you were doing so you're awesome
I truly respect your tenacity. What you built will do the job. You did say it was temporary as I recall. Well done
For a 1st time try you did an amazing awesome job. You have every right to be proud of your self.
It's a fine door. And it will last for a few years. No problem.
You created a magnificent wonky-loo and 🚿The feeling when you look at the result – pride and pure joy, right? I was most impressed by the door, it's a little piece of art. Hanging a door like that on your own is an achievement in itself! Thanks for another joyful video. Greetings from Sweden💛💙, Katarina
10/10 for effort, the more you try to do the better your builds will become. Keep going and don’t give up.
You are doing a great job building the out house! I’m so happy for you that you got a drill.
Bem vinda a Portugal. Tenho seguido o seu percurso e devo dizer que tens um futuro promissor em carpintaria. É também o meu hobby preferido. O melhor para vocês 👍
Good work, taking the mechanical advantage a cordless circular saw would be next.
What an amazing feat Christine! You are one determined girl! You set yourself a task and you saw it through to the end. Well done. You are an inspiration.
Congratulations on your first DYI wooden construction..very well done.. Although not anchored I'm sure it will withstand a storm. I love that your roofing is letting in a lot of light and I'm sure you will enjoy long hot showers in it.. maybe a plateau in front of the door/building? (in case of rain to leave/change your slippers outside as not to drag the dirt inside)
Hi Christine not a bad try for the door you learn by mistakes,a spirit level should have been the most important tool to have without it things go wrong.make sure your drunk and it won’t show when you use it.
Well done. Great progress 💪
You could go on YouTube and find out how these things are built you don’t have to make things up yourself. Use YouTube to help you.
Yay, screw gun! It makes work much faster & easier. Your outhouse is awesome! You should be so proud of yourself. What an amazing job you have done. ❤️
There’s no stopping you now there’s a lot to do before the rain come 👍✌️🤙❤️🇵🇹❤️
