This small town in northern Portugal is located only 60 miles (~100 km) west from my birthplace and ancestral routes in Mirandela (another small city in northern Portugal). Population genetics estimate that in Ponte de Lima and northern Portugal in general mtDNA Haplogroup V reaches a frequency of approximately 10%. The other two most common mtDNA haplogroups in this regionare H1 and H3.
