  1. Garlic spray is good for the itching we use it here in Italy all you need to do is crush a garlic put it in a spray bottle add water and a touch of Wasing up liquid leave for a day or two and then spray on your affected area…… and no you won't smell of garlic haha !!!!!

  2. Hi a solar fountain will keep the water moving in your barrel of water. Good idea with the chicken wire. Moth balls down the fresh holes, they don't like them. Glad you had a nice break. Love your vids. Stay safe and hydrated. A mole sign, with skull and cross bones,as a warning to them.

  3. Moles!!
    1.12v Battery
    2. Short rebars 450mm long diameter 10mm
    Pair of short jump leads
    Directions:
Hammer in rebars about 300mm apart. Connect leads to battery and rebar (clean the ends of rebar)
    Leave connected night and day.
Does not kill the moles but supposedly makes them feel
Uncomfortable. If the hole or homes become wide open it means the mole has come out of the ground not just popped his nose to the pile of dirt.
I you hear this from your neighbours Oh! meu deus tem mais aqui agora no jardim!
    You know you’ve done a good job!😂

  4. California here ….
    Triple Sec overview
What it is: Triple Sec is any clear dry orange-flavored liqueur, including Cointreau. In most liquor stores, bottles labeled Triple Sec are lower in quality and more affordable than Cointreau.

  5. I live in Sacramento, California and we are not allowed to have standing water because of mosquitos. 🦟 icky little pests. What if you get a mosquito net to put around your bed so they at least leave you alone while you are sleeping? Love watching you vids. Love seeing all the progress. Thx for sharing.

  6. Goldfish!! Pop goldfish in that waterbutt and they'll eat all the mosquito larvae 👍 (not sure where you'll get goldfish but I reckon theres a pet shop in your nearest big city) really enjoy your vids btw

  7. I'm glad to see Ted is still keeping a close eye on the progress of the renovation work. It's hard to find a good straw boss! Ugh…Moles😡 I have decorative stone around my pool area and they like to come up through the fabric under the stones. Hey Nick…I always have my margaritas on the rocks. I prefer silver tequila….cheers!

  8. Wonderful!! Congrats on the new status ;)) just put a mosquito mesh in the rainwater barrel and problem solved! Strange you can't find Cointreau,…in the big shopping stores usually they have. Keep safe!

  9. Lovely mix of content. Wedding looked fabulous. U cld feasibly use the half measure on the other end of the measuring cup for all the components it u don’t want sticky bits on the bench when using both sides! Also Re mozzies, u cld feasibly drill a hole in the bottom and put rocks and wood and mulch etc then soil and hv a lovely flower or herb planter using the water from the roof if not too much to overwhelm them. But the rocks would allow good drainage hopefully.

  10. Before LM (Leroy Merlin) in the Algarve opened, 10 years ago, I was dealing with smaller building suppliers sourcing materials.
What I did was take a Screwfix cataloge out there and pointed at that 😀. I even gave a copy to an older guy in his one man band plumbing supplies shop – he loved it. Screwfix don't print them now but they do have one on their app. so you could use that on phone or tablet.
Zack, you need to master making, am sure Nick's friend your own Cointreau from your oranges, the interweb tells us to:
    Use :
1 litre of aguardente (Portuguese moonshine can be between 29% and 60% proof, a kind of brandy)

    6 medium sized oranges

    1 litre of water

    6 cups of sugar
    Method:
In a wide-mouth bottle, place the oranges in it (broken into pieces and previously washed, I don't think you peel them).

Cover the oranges with the 1 litre of aguardente.

Leave in a place away from sunlight for 2 months.

At the end of the 2 months, strain the aguardente using a coffee filter, leave the oranges inside the bottle and set the aguardente aside.

Place the litre of water inside the bottle with the oranges and shake very well.

Using a thin mesh filter, strain the water into a pan, add the sugar and bring to a boil.

Once it cools down, mix the water with the aguardente, stir every well and place it in a big enough bottle.

    Enjoy.
You will have to ask around for an aguardente source (translation "burning water") but many country folk distill it, I am sure Nick's friend Paula could help there.
You could also try other local liquers (Licor in Portuguese} such as Ginjinha (Sour Cherry), Amêndoa Amarga (Almond), Amarguinha (a brand name of Almond with Lemon) plus many others.
So just check out the Licor shelves at the shops/supermarkets
BTW Leroy Merlin refund (or did) items returned in good condition for a month after purchase (I think), preferably with the barcode label intact.
Ginny. I thought residency lasted for 5 years not 2?

  11. Ah, but that's just your startup cost for the veg beds. They'll last a few years and the flavor of the veg will pay you back. And yes, you are breeding your own mosquitos. No standing water or you will have mosquitos breeding. Cut off the drain pipe above the barrel and put an elbow on it to divert the water into the barrel. You can then put a lid with a hole cut out with screening covering the opening or a barrel rim around the barrel with screening over the barrel to keep the mosquitos from breeding in it. You can connect several barrels together with flexible pipes about 9cm from the top as overflows. You can also install a hose bib about 9cm from the bottom to use to water the veg beds.

  12. You two are hilarious! I loved this video!
    A. No salt on the rim of your margarita glass in England?
    B. Yes absolutely you are breeding bugs. In the tropics and subtropics. A rule of no standing water is hard and fast. Maleria and Dengue Fever are the reason! Solutions, a capful of bleach added every 2 days, because it evaporates in the heat. Or a small pump to keep the water moving. Make them into a bubbling fountain. Very relaxing to listen to while sipping a cocktail!
I hear your delight at finding something for sale in your new country, that you miss buying and enjoy!
I send my congratulations on your residency! That process is much more difficult, time consuming and expensive, in this country!

  13. Beautiful wedding Ginny looks lovely …Stagnant water always attracks mosquitos I am sorry to say….the raised bed looks good…still very hot down here in Ferreira do Alentejo haven't had rain for months x

  14. Dump the barrel and don’t use it to collect water anymore as yes it’s a breeding tub for mozzys also putting drops of peppermint essential oils in a bit of water in a tub at windows and doors as they don’t like the smell of peppermint. Get a mole trap and a rat trap and get rid of the Lito blitters.

  15. Can you put a lid on the water butt? That should solve the problem. Maybe cut planks to size and use that. Put a potted plant on top to keep the lid on tight also. Raised bed looks great. Congratulations to your sister and new brother in law! Oh wow, congrats on residency!
