Portugal House Build #01

First in the series of a new build wood frame house in central Portugal.
This occurs after we decided to make this life-changing move BEFORE Brexit. We managed to sort out getting our NIF number, and residency as well as getting the car matriculated over, all with the help and knowledge gained from our besties.

We actually also made the offer on our small plot of land (circa 2000 m2) after viewing a lot of properties. We didn’t want to have something too big to manage, but definitely wanted a bit more space than we had in our UK village. We also wanted to be quite close to our besties, so the area was important also. We gravitated towards Alvados from very early on. We loved the tranquility of the area and it’s location, although seemingly remote when you are there, is actually well placed for all the usual amenities you would need and not too far from Lisbon either. If we ever fancy a city break, there is none finer.

Note: this isn’t a ‘how too’ video, it’s just the approach we took. We hope the series will follow the build process in a bit more detail, and show why we are choosing some of our design options and how our decision making is based around sustainability and trying to work with the environment.

A lot of the final aesthetics will come down to the landscaping and gardening after the build, but that’s a whole new series…

It is due to happen very soon, so we are crossing our fingers it goes smoothly. COVID is understandably causing a few delays, but the outlook is a bit brighter looking at the news and seeing restrictions being eased in many countries.
