Portugal update, train strike, covid tests to fly, VRSA Party, algarve beach, food, sneak peek…

A quick update on the train strike in Portugal with suggestions on other transit options. Links to sites with information on the strike and also Covid testing flight resources for information (don’t get a fine or be sent back home without the right information).

A few clips of beaches and beach cafes as well as the Vila Real de Santo Antonio Birthday/Anniversary celebration in the East Algarve of Portugal.

A special preview of my next video *should drop this week! Sandra Penny McCallum shares her story and book of poetry about the Algarve. Her poetry set to video as well as her story and inspiration in the Algarve.

With apps you may need for trains (high-speed train Alpha Pendular), communication, travel, and more. I give an ideal itinerary for scouting out where to live or visit to maximize your time and money hitting Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve.

A good overview covering city pairs and how to save money by combining flights, trains, and rental cars. Porto and Faro are fabulous city pairs.

Make sure to get a rental car with a toll pass included with auto-billing (and free access to Spain if you’ll be near the border). Don’t get the rental cars that charge exorbitant fees for these standard items. Check the fine print of the rental car before you book.

Apps: Skyscanner, MyCP, WhatsApp, Rome2Rio (forgot to mention that one), Rentalcars.com, Uber (or your favorite taxio etc), your airline app, hotels.com, Pestana, and Waze works great here!

  1. Thanks for the video. We are et to to go to Portugal 6/22, but looks like COVID is off the charts there. But your videos don't appear to reflect that. From what you have heard, is it really that prevalent? Or are the numbers misleading? Thanks!

  2. Welcome back! I have missed you. Such a great video! Thank you.

Question for you: How is it living in Vila Real de Santo Antonio without a car? Seems to me that if there is no train strike, using trains, busses, Uber or Bolt and even airplanes (Faro airport), it would be doable.

  3. Thanks for posting this video, it’s so lovely to see the eastern Algarve and the secret beach 🏖 in the summertime.
I hope to come for a visit in the near future. ♥️🇵🇹☺️🌍

On a side note, if you’re still seeking assistance with video editing, lmk. I have a friend who may be interested. ✌🏾

  4. Thanks for sharing the beautiful times, the VRSA party, the idyllic town’s charm, hidden charm:), expat group cheering and having fun, above all an Ode to the Algarve – superbly done, bewitchingly beautiful! scroll to 11:37 thats a priceless photo of the lady and the horse in the lush greenery, what a portrait you captured. 👋👌

  5. Hello Veronica…
Enjoy your videos and can't wait to come to your area. We are staying in Villamoura for a couple of weeks right now. Do you have any recommendations on transportation to VRSA from Villamoura. With the train strikes going on is it better to take the bus? Thank you for any suggestions you might have.

  6. Thanks Veronica for this preview and another cheery video. It’s great to see folks having a good time. 🎉🎊 Isn’t that what life should be? 🤔 Now that I’m retired, I was hoping to get back to PT for our second recon trip in late April or May but (as often happens) some issues got in the way. Visiting in June is looking doubtful—but keeping my eye on those (ever increasing) airfares—just in case! At worst, we’ll revisit in early September. All the best to you and the Tribe 👩‍👩‍👦‍👦. —maurice

  7. Hi Veronica. So great to see you are still enjoying life in VRSA. You certainly are a great ambassador for that lovely area of the Algarve. We haven't made it over yet but should do so by late September so look forward to meeting everybody again. Best wishes. Irish Marge.

  8. I’m traveling from the USA and united airlines says you just need to show if you are fully vaccinated. Flying into Lisbon on June 12. I just checked the visit Portugal website you mentioned and it states you need to show a negative test OR show vaccine certification
