Prepping the Farm for Spring | PORTUGAL FARM LIFE S4-E12 ❤🇵🇹

In this episode Ken gets down and dirty in the vegetable garden, clearing out the old overgrowth and rotavating it into the soil to compost. As usual we have some chilled ASMR clips of the farm and how its starting to change with the arrival of Spring. We get a glimpse of our goldfish for the first time during the day in our dam. Usually we can only see them with a strong torch at night, but today they were all basking the the sunshine! We also pop round to our neighbour Joaquim’s farm to see what he is up to. We hope you enjoy this episode.

We are Ken & Gina, and we left the UK in 2019 in search of a simpler life, away from our office jobs, and the hustle and bustle of the big city. We sold our house, left the UK, and left the Rat race behind us, to move to Portugal and buy a farm. We found an amazing farm in Castelo Branco, Central Portugal where we have lived for the last two and a half years. We make these videos for our friends and family to keep up with what’s going on in our new lives and as a record to look back on one day so see how far we have come. We are always amazed when we see how many people have been watching, following, and subscribing to our vlogs. Thanks for tuning in 😊

  1. Hi, we are staying near your area for a couple of days and I think we drove past your place today, Bob the motorhome gave it away😁. We have a place on Alentijo /Algarve boarder. Thinking maybe moving up this way, but not to sure. As always great videos.

  2. Good move Ken, no plastic! Cardboard and thick layer of wood chip on top will keep the weeds at bay. Consider “no dig” gardening, no more rotovating ever again. Spring is lovely on your farm.

  3. Nice to see a new video 😍

Ken, were those potatoes I saw in the veggie plot?

Nice salad Mediterranean style 👌🏻 bon appetite 🙏🏻

Jeana have you gone off gardening? 😄

  4. Springtime would be my favorite time also in Portugal. Love seeing all the flowers and greens. I am afraid those weeds are going to grow again rather than compost. Love your videos! See you next time.

  5. Every Monday, I switch on my laptop for another week to slave away at a corporate job but first thing I do is watch your weekly video and I repeat to myself " One Day, I will get there!" Thanks for keeping me motivated to get back to my family home! Wishing you both a happy and healthy week!

  6. A beautiful video. Spring is a wonderful time and your farm certainly portrays this. You both looks so healthy and happy. Good to see. All the hard work certainly is paying off. I must say I'm in awe of Gina pruning the vines. No easy job and you've obviously learned extremely well. How exciting now to await the fruits of your work. Lovely organic grown veggies, your own olive oil. fruit to be enjoyed at your leisure and wine! I'm not regretting the life my late husband and I enjoyed but the one thing I do wish is that I had found these wonderful videos much earlier in our lives. How much we could have learned and achieved . At 84 now never to be again but our time in France (14 years) was enjoyable if only!!!! Never mind we experienced a different way of living as are you and it will hold you in good stead for the rest of your lives. I love y our farmer neighbour.

  7. Gosh I adore springtime, but springtime in Portugal is sooo much lovelier! So great to see the progession of the garden, and the grape vine field looks amazing! Eddie is going to be Huge!❤ Thanks for Sharing Ken and sweet Gina!

  8. According to the latest figures, the Castelo de Bode dam's water level has risen 2.5m during last month. I don't know if you're familiar with the dimensions of that dam or not but I can tell that's A LOT of water! It may seem like it didn't rain much in March but it looks like it has rained in the right places. 🙂

  9. Hi guys! Growing season is at hand. Some growers around here are spreading manure/compost on their fields and then covering them with a black plastic sheet, so that by planting time everything has composted and ready to go. I'm just doing raised beds. Just herbs and maybe tomatoes. I do have more land, but it's alot for just 1 person. I would do a large garden if it could be a group effort. Eddie❤ sure is a big boy now.

  10. Anxiously awaiting spring in Canada. Saw the first Robin of the year which is always a welcome positive sign, but it has been a long grueling winter. All of the videos I watch from Portugal make me want to move their!! Hugs to you both from 🇨🇦. BTW the salad linked great and was a bit of a surprise!

  11. Spring on your farm and views are so lovely. Your videos are very enjoyable and quite educational, too (for those of us unfamiliar with farming).

What were the roundy, yellow/reddish squash-looking things in your veg patch that survived the roto tilling?

Wow, your goldfish are thriving and look so healthy… what a sizeable colony/school they've grown to be. Good job hoovering the mosquito larvae, fishies!

Love Eddie's tall puppy legs. Him and Mimo playing is really cute.

  12. You are doing an outstanding job, both on the farm and your video making. Your videos, the account of your lnew life in Portugal are a highlight I look forward too each week. This particular spring episode was lovely, dreamy. ❤ you both.

  13. Over the past few months, it has become a ritual of mine to watch these videos on Sunday afternoon with a sandwich and a glass of wine (after having prepared my lessons for the next week) and dreaming about a new life in a nice house in Portugal, somewhere near Porto. Keep making these videos, thank you:)
