SAINT JOHN'S DAY THE BIGGEST SUMMER FESTIVAL IN PORTO PORTUGAL WITH FIREWORKS DISPLAY

Hi everyone, welcome to Travelzilla, in this vlog I take you with me to the BIGGEST SUMMER PARTY in Portugal, ST. JOHN’S DAY or DIA DE SÃO JOÃO in Portuguese. This is one of the biggest festivities in the country during the summer months. It is also a massive party in countries like Brazil, but the origin of it is here in Portugal. SAO JOAO used to be a celebration to the summer solstice, or the shortest night of the year. A Celebration to the SUN GOD. Later on the catholic church incorporated this once pagan festivity into it’s culture and elected Saint John the Baptist as the patron of the celebrations which happens in the incredibly busy Portuguese summer. The summer festival is crowded with artistic performances, parties, djs, Portuguese artists & people from all over Portugal and the world.
Here I take you to the streets of the city of PORTO PORTUGAL, show you what the summer festival look like, explain about the history behind it and show you some pretty awesome images of ST. JOHN’S DAY, the biggest summer festival in Portugal, one of the country’s most important festivities.
I also talk about places to stay and start the video at the incredible CAFE MAJESTIC, one of the local inspirations of J.K. ROWLING to write the incredible series of HARRY POTTER. I also show you the craze of the local plastic hammers, porto wine, grilled sardines, places to stay in Porto Portugal, singing crowds and more! oporto fc porto porto 4k

  1. Muito obrigado 😊 that's so awesome job for Porto. That's all folks, that's São João at Porto.. Usualy that finished at Matosinhos at the sunrise… Imagine! Well, can I bring in a new idea?! Next são João, visit Sobrado!! (next to Porto) Where there is an diferent historic way of living it. I'm from Porto, and also from this town Sobrado.. So, I know what I am saying 🙌 just enjoy the summer festivities 😎

  2. Hey man

Great video, I was in Porto in late May this year and I did not know about this festival but I’m planning to go there next year.

Quick question, is my understanding that the festival last two days (23&24), are both days the same ? Like fireworks and everything else the same?

Please let me know your comments!

    Cheers
