Solo and over 60, living off-grid in PORTUGAL / BUSY BEE

So much to do on the farm, getting ready for 6 different litters of piglets. We do a bee hive inspection and discover something interesting.

  1. HAHAHA BEE MAN SAYS….Mess with the Bull, you might get the horns! I will remember that one for future. Also like this one…Pick the low hanging fruit first….to get your confidence up, build momentum and the project started.
Farm life is hard work as you well know but it is your dream and the life is bringing you the lessons as well as the rewards. Keep up the good work, keep charging and give my love to all the girls.!

  2. Hello again Cindy, so sorry to have invaded onto your land during our land search! We stopped at the top of your hill as we were worried about our rental van and access to view the other farm. Imagine our surprise when we stopped and realised that it was your farm – what were the chances?? Having watched so many of your videos it was lovely to meet you and enjoyed our brief chat. All the very best to you and we look forward to following your journey more. Kind hugs

  3. Cindy you are so amazing, and deserve that extra parcel of land. I am always impressed to see how you use your South African " 'n boer maak a plan" philosophy to get it done – no matter what the challenge is. Looking forward to the new birthings… Vasbyt vrou, die aanhouer wen!

  4. Hey Cindy! I just now see that you have this video out! I didnt get a notificaion grrr-you tube and their shenanigans! Anywho-great video!! Loved it! Yay for rain and the 3rd well! Bees looking great-looks like you be having a bunch of honey soon (thats grat for sale-Raw honey is sought after and very expensive) I lie very much what you did to the fences! Great ingenuity there useing the plastic netting, I am sure it will work well for a good while! Glad you are wearing that hat lol You take care now! Greetings from Germany 🙂

  5. Oh my goodness what a lot to do. Don't forget to be kind to yourself Cindy and please take a lot of breaks especially in that heat. Loving your journey and cant wait for the next video.

  6. 🙋hi from Scotland well done Cindy that was a lot of had work you did on this vlog great that you got the other bit of land you have your hand full with all the baby pigs take care till next time cheers 🍷 Anne from Scotland

  7. I worry about how you are going to cope with many sows giving birth at very siminlar times, when you already find it overwhelming to deal with your present situation. Are you organizing a group of volunteers to come and help you?

  8. Looks like you have solved the stringy algae/duck weed problem for now; instead of using a whole roll of duct tape to connect the poles maybe get three large pipe clamps to use long term secured by less duct tape. Any results with your mouse problem??

  9. Here's an idea for the fence and to hold your baby piggies in. If you were to use the long thin strips of wood you have and weave them into the bottom of the cattle fencing this would keep the babies in. You would have to soak the wood strips to make them soft and flexible and you could split the pieces into workable maybe 1 inch strips.
    Good Luck 🤞!

  10. That's great that you are getting another well. You are a hard worker. There have been a lot of firsts for you in the past year or so & you have had to learn a lot of new skills while working a full time job. You are learning more about beekeeping by asking a lot of questions. You are trying different things to fix fences that others have built but not built well enough. When the piglets are born, you will see which method works best & is worth repeating. I am fairly close to your age & I know how hard it is do a lot of difficult new things by oneself, especially when it's hot. I can see how you can feel anxiety & panic sometimes. Yet you know things have to get done so you do it one step at a time. Good job! Please ignore the mean people who put down those who are trying hard. I encourage you to keep doing what you do! You inspire me & others.

You have taken on so much and handling it with great equanimity. I fully understand the momentary overwhelm.
One thought about the ties on the chicken wire, the hot sun will degrade them and make them brittle. Plan to replace them with wire in a couple months.
Also, what will you do with all those piglets?

  12. Hi Cindy!
    Another incredible vlog!
    Thank you so much!
Do you have much contact to the IndiProjecs?
All love and best wishes, Claire, Tommi the new rescue dog from Poland, and 'Lady Lucy ', the 16 year old cat!
    😘😘😘❤️

  13. Way to keep at it, bit by bit — good work, Cindy 😊👍🏼! Tasks accomplished 😌! Keep taking frequent breaks away from the heat and the sun and hydrating often. Please avoid working in the intensity of midday, too many people unnecessarily succumb to sneaky heat exhaustion… maybe you can have friends/fam to call you during those brutal hours to help nudge you to your breaks from the heat & sun, eh? The talks and refreshment will help cool you down, k? 🤗 Things are getting done (said she who solo cares for elderly parent and silly asthmatic cow-colored kitty, 24/7). 😉
