Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an immigrant / expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful girlfriend Mariana for six years now.

Together Mariana, my father Clinton and myself, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!

In this episode we welcome you to join us in mid summer time as we are given a tour around a bargain farm house, which is for sale, in a rural mountain village in central Portugal.

We start the virtual tour by introducing ourselves as we explain the location of this wonderful gem of a farm and a little about the surroundings and local amenities.

We begin by walking up the long private track which wraps around the properties vineyard. The first thing that can be seen as you walk down the track is the spectacular panoramic views which surround the property.

We firstly check out the ruin itself, which of course needs a complete interior renovation. This is fairly easily achieved though and I know of many contractors and specialists who can help in this project, the builders I know of are all local people who give a fair days work for honest pay and I have personally seen a lot of their works.

Once we meet Joaquim and go inside the xisto and granite ruin he tells us that he used to live in this house some 35 years ago, nowadays it has been used as an adega, or winery. We take a tour around each of the rooms and see Joaquims old rabbitry and everything else the house has to offer.

The house has a height which easily would allow for an upstairs and can also be extended, the condition of the roof is not bad, but could use some work. The current size of the house is 98m2, which would work well for a small family.

After the house we walked down into the valley, where the pond and grazing areas of the farm are, there is enough space here to do whatever you wanted and the area itself is a fantastic fruit growing area. There is plenty of room to have donkeys, goats, sheep, horses, plant orchards or whatever you wish to do.

After our wonderful visit to this beautiful farm with Joaquim we headed back to our farm and my little sous chef, Chloe, and I decided it was time for lunch. So we gathered some ingredients and set about making ourselves some wonderful oriental pork skewers with a nice coriander and oyster sauce marinade and brushed over the grill with some coconut cream, it was rather nice!

Once lunch was finished we checked up on the little chick from last weeks episode, he was hatched out by mother duck, a chicken had been sneaking in behind the duck and laying eggs in her nest without us knowing, so we needed to take those chicks away before the ducklings were born otherwise the mother duck would try and teach the chicks to swim, which they cannot do. Fortunately a second little chick hatched out and gave our little chick a companion in his brooder box!

At the very end of the day I went up to one of our sheep barns, where all the girls greeted me with the promise of some tasty treats. I summed up the week and bid you all a very nice week ahead!

Have an amazing week everybody and I look forward to seeing you all again in the next one!

See our journey to self sufficiency / permaculture / organic farming living in Portugal, trying to produce as much of our own food planting vegetables, growing fruit trees as well as looking after all our animals, such as our chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, quail, rabbits and sheep – Shortly pigs too!

Now, one word of advice. Do not eat the black part of the roasted meat because is bad for your health. Please take it off before starting to eat.

  5. What a lovely piece of property! Thank you for the tour. It was nice seeing Mariana again.
I so enjoy watching you cook. My mouth watered watching the pork sizzle on the BBQ. Chloe is so precious!

  6. Beautiful vlog again with a great choice of music. And the cherry on top must be little Chloe. Such a sweet little girl, well I'm sure she has her moments too.
Pretty sure teething would be starting and sore gums would bring a tear or two.
    Thanks for showing us around.

  7. We are happy and playing is such brilliant. Your family is a peaceful and great family in the world. A great show. Wishing all the best for the your future of good life. Congratulations

  8. Thanks, Joseph and Mariana, you brightened my Saturday while I'm home with a light case of covid. 🙂 Question for you both: If one didn't want to work the farm for it's vineyards, could it be rented out to people who want land but maybe can't afford to buy the land, could that be an arrangement and then they pay you a portion of the revenue generated? Thanks again for the lovely visit. Cloe is adorable! What a sweet baby she is.

  9. Hello Joseph and Mariana
That place looks just right for me, open space and just big enough, maybe I'll be a big wine drinker 🍷 if i buy that land. Is it allowed to live in that stone house? Have the residence and address in the house? I've heard something about 1951 rule!?
I'm driving down in October and would be happy to look around that central area. Going to visit Cindy Wine as well… and hopefully a few more lovely Youtubers like yourself.

  10. Wowwwww Joseph I like how you start off the video with the best part Chloe she’s so beautiful You’re little Portuguese princess she is growing up fast thanks for another great video 👍✌️🤙❤️🇵🇹❤️

  11. Thanks Joseph and Mariana for that enjoyable tour on the vineyard. I always find old farmhouses amazing. Those huge granite stones on the walls are just fantastic. I like the exterior of the farmhouse. It’s got that old rustic charm. But I would add a 2nd floor over the car port, with an open veranda or balcony, in order to get a better view of the lovely vista of the property. 👍 👍
The chicks are so cute and it’s really interesting, that mother duck hatched the 2 chicken eggs. 😮
Till your next video, Joseph! Cheers !!! 😃
    >> Chloe is starting to look like a little Mariana. 😃

  13. Oh Joseph, I keep telling you how much I admire the rural life and the the wonderful way you showcase these idyllic properties. Can I ask that you remove this glorious opportunity from YouTube for now…just to keep it safe and available for me. Because in 6yrs time, this would make a wonderful home and lifestyle option for me.
Seriously, keep up the good work.

  14. That property is amazing with that beautiful house and vineyard… it’s a delight to hear people like Joaquim tell stories about the farm and his family💕 You cook amazing yummy food, very good idea the coconut milk on the pork! And that assistant you’ve got, she is soooo gorgeous 😊
