  1. Hi Joric,
Just looking for some info on the train strike due in July, I've stumbled upon your channel.
We were planning to travel to Lisbon this summer and in fact we've already booked our accommodation, although fortunately it has free cancellation until 21st July. We're travelling with our medium-size dog by ferry from the Canary Islands to Huelva, mainland Spain, and from there someone will drive us to Ayamonte, where we'll take the Guadiana ferry to Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Our plan was to travel by train from Vila Real de Santo Antonio to Faro and to Lisboa-Santa Apolonia on Tuesday 26th July and returning on Friday 5th August (same process to get to Huelva port to catch the ferry at night).
We have not bought our train tickets online as we are travelling with our dog and we understand we have to buy the dog's ticket at the ticket office; therefore, we have decided to buy all three tickets at the station on journey day to avoid any problems as it seems that the dog's ticket is associated to the owner's.
I am now concerned about the strike. As we do not live in Portugal and will just be visiting, we do not know what happens when there is a strike, whether all train services are cancelled or there is a minimum service at certain hours, or perhaps trains do not run through smaller stations such as Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Our holiday to Portugal depends on the train services as we cannot take our dog on buses because of her size and we do not have a valid driving license so we cannot rent a car.
I have already consulted the CP official website and contacted them and the info is very basic; they do not give specific info on which lines are cancelled or which days there will be more disturbances. Would you please shed some light on what the regular service is when there is a strike? Do you know if the Alfa Pendular and Intercidades trains suffer regular cancellations? If that is the case, we would have to cancel our accommodation in Lisbon, stay in Huelva instead (which we already did last summer) and forget about travelling to Portugal. What would you recommend?
Sorry for such a long message and thank you in advance.
