The #A220, previously known as the CSeries, was initially produced by Bombardier from a clean sheet design. In 2018, #Airbus became a majority partner of the CSeries #Aircraft limited partnership and rebranded the CSeries as the A220 specifically the A220-100 and the A220-300 to reflect its major interest in the partnership.

Possibly, because it is not a real Airbus.
Bombardier nailed every design and engineering sweet spot into this plane! Fuel efficiency outlier, durable as a DC-9 (tested to 180,000 cycles), 2-3 seating coveted by passengers (couples, families, solo fliers), wide seats in economy, big windows , quiet engines, tougher landing gear to swallow harder landings. Most of all, LOTS of power from those huge engines matched with those big wings on a light airplane to blast off from shorter runways! Keep an eye on this plane in the next 36 months.
My favorite plane 🙂 I flew with Swiss on the a220! I remember it being very quiet and comfortable.

The A220 (neé Bombardier C-Series) succeeded where other failed: replacing older jet airliners in the 100-140 seat category. That's why Delta is buying a large number of them to fly shorter routes, and why Southwest was actually seriously considering this plane to replace the aging 737-700 fleet.

The Bombardier C series is truly a Canadian engineering marvel decades ahead of any commercial aircraft flying.
Airbus will take the a 220 to the next level.
