I’m on a little roadtrip in Croatia with Eelco and visit abandoned military relics throughout the country.
On the last day we visit Zeljava air base, which was the largest underground airport of Europe. It’s located right on the border of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This place became operational in 1968 and got destroyed by the Serbian military in 1991-1992.
Since then it’s a dangerous abandoned place since there are still mines and unexploded ammunition scattered around. This place is also a smuggling route and a illegal way into the EU for illegal immigrants so there’s a lot of police patrol. We also visit a “submarine” tunnel called “Hitler’s eyes’.

I remember seeing pictures of that place when it was full of planes.
มันคือสมบัติยุคเก่าที่หลงเหลืออยู่ มีไม่มากนักที่จะได้เห็นมัน มันกำลังจะสลายตามการเวลา
weird seeing these airbases in real life after playing over 500 hours in scum survival (based in croatia)
When Yugoslavia pulled out, they boobie trapped it, possibly with hazmat.
Wow … What an awesome adventure!
My Dad was military and we were stationed on Okinawa Japan during the Vietnam war. There was some left over Japanese building's at Kadena Air Force Base. It was nothing like this! Thanks for the tour!
Respekt für Kroatien lov Kroatien
Albanien hat den grüßten unterirdischen Flughafen Bunker

KRAJINA❤️❤️❤️
"just like humanity" just brilliant comedy!
Whoop!
In Yugoslavia, we could be proud of what was built regarding the defense of the country itself!❗🛣🗻⛰🪝🏗✈🚛
Also, the industry itself was built on the very supply of the country and very strong! ❗✈🏗💺🚈🚍🛳🏢🏭🚛🚁🏠🏬💪
Un viejo vecino nacido en Croacia y combatió de muy jovencito me contaba de esa base donde entraban los U bot . Nunca pensé en verla . Don Drago Q.E.P.D . Excelente video saludos 🇦🇷
Now these guys do appear to be really nice guys but I truly wonder why they have not as yet been arrested for suspected spying?
Me just imagining soilders doing their tasks and planes being moved in and out
Am pretty sure this base is the model used for the Scum game
Just watched something on this base at Dark 5 here on YouTube
Amazing content. I’ve not seen this place before. Gonna have to do some research.
Very good your video! congratulations !
Google map link pls
was cold and creapy inside the tunnel ? you are very brave
in Brazil, all this places would be invaded and turned into houses since there are many people who prefer to live on the streets and then say that they have nothing, or because they spent all that little they had on drugs and drinks
I'm impressed with the engineering used and materials used… they can be used for various tourism purposes or something similar…
Stop at 34.41. zoom at the base of the door. See the rounded sticker with Motoclub Piazza Santo Stefano? I was there with my motorcycle years ago!!!!
amazing place
Are those planes still fly able?
Very Much good
Niemcy nie naziści nie było takiego państwa jak Naziści!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The aircraft looks to be an American DC-3/C-47 DAKOTA
Ive been in that tunnel its truly crazy walking through the entire thing.
Hey i have been there, like 2 months ago. Sadly couldn't explore everything. Its scary with only your flashlight from your phone
Lord and Lady Cat, such a great idea as cat's do think they're the ruler.
The Željava Air Base was built during Tito`s communist Yugoslavia. As you said it cost $6 billion USD which was a crazy amount of money back in the 1960`s. This military project along with other military mega projects in the former Yugoslavia helped to ruin the Yugoslav economy as most of the money was borrowed from the West and it had to be paid back with interest. For a poor socialist or communist economy paying all this borrowed money back was a big ask and the country collapsed.
3 of such bases are in Slovenia,4 here in Croatia,5 in Bosnia and Serbia and Macedonia and Montenegro has 2. I think i got it right.
During ex country not only military bases were built but also civilian nuclear shelters. Company couldnt get building permit if there was no nuclear shelter. My neighbourhood in Zagreb has 6 and in entire city there are 140 i think.
So in this times we are living and witnesing brutality and war crimes they can become handy.lets just hope we will not have to use them
