  1. Harvest Host is awesome but doesn’t promote long term stays. There are work camp situations you can do to stay for an extended period of time. But as far as isolation, consider Skoolie Swarm or other gatherings where you can network and find places to stay longer term. I love my Skoolie family and they are always stepping up to help me.

  2. Well, I think you did exactly what you needed to do. It’s a learning process. I’m building a Shantyboat, that’s the same. I’m totally enjoying the build, but know I’ll be glad to be on the water!! Wish I would’ve done it at your age. Hang in there!! Open it!!💕

  3. as far as cost wait till ya have to start replacing parts and tires…ya picked an expensive boat hobby….lol…but your young and planty of time to figure a way to make it all happen…:)

  4. I think it's amazing that you were able to travel for so long and your actual parking fees were so low. I do just weekends and a lot of state parks have jumped from 12 a day to $40 a day! Even if you were only paying 15 a day, that would be $450 a month and you would for sure get bored in a state park for a month.
I've had decent luck with iOverlander and searching through the wild-parking options within an hour of whatever city I want to be close to. You have to weed through a lot of parking lot situations but you can find some good gems at random lakes and stuff. Also, I have found some good spots by being extra friendly to old folks at antique stores and flea markets- as if you needed another hobby!

  5. I hope you keep this up Emma, your journey is great to watch might I suggest you build up your battery bank with solar then you can keep the things a site gbuilt house offers. Roughing it with 12 volt stuff sucks. Its just not the same. Reach out to venders see if they can sponsor you. You have 20k followers now.

  6. Maybe the approach for you would be staying at a home base with your family and friends and have some community while working on the bus and go on a a trip like every so often. Then when your bus is finished you could try to sell it and from the profit buy a used van then start building that out. Once done, You will basically not have any restrictions and fuel will be way cheaper so you can stay on the road. You can literally find free street parking anywhere. Both Urban van life and country would be totally attainable. Same concept as when Dwight traded his way up from a paperclip 🖇️ to a telescope in the Office. Just make sure you don't end up trading your telescope for a magic bean 😂

  7. …however, bus life overall is an expense 🙂….whether living in an apartment, mobile home, house, motor home, cave, or other shelter, bus life is an expense. You drive your house around like a motor home which costs fuel…so your car operating expenses are now your bus operating expenses.
I don't think you're spending too much on those monthly expenses/necessities either.

  8. Some sort of computer based job might work, then you got work to do wherever you are as long as you have a signal and earn an income while also having work during bus life?

  9. Try Hipcamp. You can prob find places that you can rent for a low cost on private land for small extended periods of time. Since your home is self-contained, you prob won't need very many amenities. Just an area for extended stay. If you can get a spot for $10-15/night, you can prob negotiate at longer stay at a reasonable price.

  10. Another great vlog Emma, great info and as you gain experience and make shorter trips the costs should fall. It still isn't so bad considering the cost of rents in cities today. And just to touch one last time (I know I have OCD lol) With the Skytrain when you tapped in, the system put a hold or "reservation" it's called here for the max 3 zone fare $6.05 cad. If you tapped out after only 1 zone, then the card you used would actually be charged 1 zone or $3.10 cad. The tap in's you are seeing on you card are just holds. Safe journeys Emma, hope you make it back up here sometime.

  11. Once a season is about the speed of travel I hope to do when I get my bus finished. I've parked mine two places so far and I've had okay luck with posting on local FB groups about places to park. Specifically local buy/sell pages.

  12. Emma, Take a serious look at that Boondockers Welcome/Harvest Hosts membership you bought. We traveled the US extensively for 18 months using mostly BW/HH with our 30ft travel trailer. You may not be able to stay for more than a week or two at a time but you could stitch together several in close proximity.

  13. Okay! You've tackled a derelict bus and made that work. Do you now want to leverage what you've learned and the 'home' you've built into reviving a derelict piece of property? You certainly seem to have the energy! And it doesn't have to be a forever home! Think "profit'!

  14. I live in Barnegat nj , on 3 acres . I too bought a bus38 ft. Can’t seam To get things moving. Had it a year already . Only got seats out floor down sheepwool on walls box in wheel wells. Two sky lights and fan. Now I can seam to figure out what I should do next. Life just gets in the way. U can stay here for a little bit and maybe push me along. I’m 60 female and I get ideas like let’s build a bus to travel when I retire. Just an idea!!

  15. Right now comparing food costs to the past is a bad idea, we’re paying the most I ever have for groceries in my life. We’re averaging $60 more a week then 2-3 years ago. Thanks for sharing this information, looks like we might see a planning video before you set out next time! Love the videos, keep it up!

  16. Actually, for the mileage you covered and what you're driving, that wasn't a bad fuel bill. Of course you'll need a way to sustain your bank account while you're on the road.

  17. I worked as a field service Tech and learned very quickly to get and keep receipts for everything I purchased.
When I retired I traveled across the US twice in a Class B Van. The first trip was for 6 months, September through February along the southern portion to avoid the snow and cold. Second trip was for 5 months across the northern US from May through September. I had a list of places I wanted to see but no time line which allowed me to explore areas that I passed through. I'm a senior and a veteran and was able to get discounted rates most of the time. I also boon docked a lot. BLM and Federal land Managed areas were free. West of the Mississippi the costs were less than in the East. Visited 48 states. I purchased a used Van and was able to sell it for the same amount I paid for it. Fuel, maintenance, registration and insurance are included in the total cost. From my journal I traveled a total of 58,835 miles and spent a total of $19,796.00.
Keeping track of your expenses is a good idea. Traveling and exploring, no mater the cost, was the best thing I ever did.
Thank you Emma. Your posts on YouTube are like another trip and I like going along for the ride.🙂👍
