Somewhere in the southern countryside of Portugal there sits a long forgotten house…
Preserved for decades, the beloved home of a family, condemned by ill health.

It remains as it did the day they left, suspended in time…

  1. The painting could be James casil if so it could be a valuable painting and should be rescued then sold and the money put back into the property to make it secure and preserved
But another great video guys xx

  2. I loved how all the windows have a seat on each side. OMG the house was endless, it's so odd what was taken and what was left behind, I wonder if they took it or someone else, why would they worry about paintings and leave their teeth and clothes. they looked so happy in the photos, what the hell happened to them? and where are the children? Not to sound like your mother, please wear a mask the mold is bad, and the paint chips are probably lead based. This could cause a lot of health problems later in life. Love you stay safe and well.

  3. It’s so sad that people work hard all their lives for what they have only to have it left behind to rot. I guess the old saying is “you can’t take it with you” is so true. Good find Sam & Jess. Thank you.

  4. Late watching your videos. I've been knuckle deep in paints. Working on a horse at the moment an 3 more to go with it.
Heres a bit of info on the Artist.. btw, loved this video❣ Many thanks!! Sam, your tummy was rumbling a lot lol xx

    Artist biography

John Castle was a visual artist, John Castle was born in 1939 and died in 1999. Artists born in the same year and of the same generation are Marc Egger, Robert Lostutter, Anne Courjaret, Ricardo Bofill, and Patrick Bertrand.

Further Biographical Context for John Castle

Born in 1939, John Castle was largely influenced by the 1950s growing up. Abstract Expressionism prevailed in the 1950s as a chief method of painting, and explored ideas concerning the sublime and spirituality. Artists endeavoured to focus on painting’s formal properties, and Action Painting took inspiration from the political freedoms of the United States, in opposition to the strictures of the Soviet bloc. Significant artists of this period included Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Frank Kline, Barnett Newman, Clyfford Still and Adolph Gottlieb. In later revisions, the contributions and efforts of female artists such as Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, and Louise Bourgeois have been recognised, amongst many other female creatives.

  5. Hi guys, I googled j castle (James Charles Castle) he was born in, Garden Valley, Idaho on September 25th, 1899 and died on, October, 26th, 1977, he was born profoundly deaf, his artwork was created almost exclusively with found materials such as, papers salvaged from common packaging, mail in addition to food containers of all types, Castle mixed ink using soot from the wood stove with his saliva and applied it with tools of his own making including sharpened sticks and other found objects his art work was sensitively depicted of interiors, buildings, animals, landscapes and people based on his family’s his family’s rural garden valley homestead, his former home in Idaho is now a cultural center devoted to his work. The Philadelphia museum of art organized a retrospective of castles work which toured nationally in 2008 – 9 his work entered the international arena with a major exhibition in, Madrid, Spain. I’m wondering with Madrid and Spain someone that lived in the abandoned house had seen the painting and purchased it. His paintings were never dated or titled making it impossible to track his progression as an artist additionally he often bundled his art in small boxes and stashed them in hiding spots that weren’t discovered for decades. His work went up for sale at auctions selling for thousands of dollars depending on the work size, the highest being, $43,750 if he was still alive he would have been a self made millionaire his net worth today is, 5 million bucks which gets larger as his paintings are often sold and re sold at auction s around the world. Wow u guys, very interesting work of art you stumbled on, I hope some kind person reports this painting or it will be lost forever,

Such a lovely house but again a shame it’s been left to rot! If the houses around this one are the children’s, I wonder why they’re just leaving this house to rot??!!
