The UK Government is trying to stop us living Off Grid – no more 4 year certificate of lawfulness!

Below is a link to the video I did before about gaining a certificate of lawfulness;

Link to Robert Fiddlers castle that got refused a certificate of lawfulness under the 4 year and 1 day rule due to concealment;

Link to Daniel Browns wooden home built in the woods that was granted a certificate of lawfulness;

Link to Kris Harbour’s YouTube channel where he built and off grid round house in his Pembrokeshire woods;

Link to my own video giving advice on how to site and live in a static caravan on your own land without having to submit a planning application;

Hi folks, so let me introduce ourselves, myself and Heather Nimmo live on our 8.5 acre off grid smallholding outside Portpatrick in Southwest Scotland.

Heather purchased the property in August 2011, 10 years ago as a derelict plot of scrub and trees with a small yard and some tumbled down stables.

Immediately a static caravan was sited on site and that’s where the story started. We follow so many stories and posts on Facebook of people saying it can’t be done, I’m not saying the journey has been easy but 10 years later we are here and happier than ever.

Just under a year ago we found out what YouTube was, and we’ve started doing weekly blogs charting our progress.

We are now building our forever home, a cabin/bothy, we’ve built 3 barns and next year we are going to build a roundwood pole barn.

We have no mains services, we produce our own power from solar, with a battery bank and backup generator, rainwater harvesting, this year we are upgrading our systems and you’ll be able to follow it on our channel.

We’d really appreciate it if everyone could subscribe to our YouTube channel, ring the bell for weekly notifications and like and share our videos. We also are on Facebook as “Lochnaw Smithy”

  1. I know a certain community who purchased some land and without permission lived in two caravans, after a few years applied for planning but was only granted temporary planning for the two caravans, today the place has now become a dump in what was a beautiful area of wilderness, the amount of caravans parked is now the size of a residential park home site [far exceeding the planning] with no proper sewage system to protect the environment, the place littered with trash, human and animal waste, scrap vehicles, abandoned suffering cats, not to mention high amounts of criminal activity. A small minority can destroy it for others who would be respectful of the land they live on. It seems the government is trying to prevent these stealth abuses of the countryside, trying to encourage planning applications before constructions take place.

  2. Typical!! one rich knob end ruins a good thing for the rest of us! Imagine being three & half years in, & now having to wait another six! Gutting…💚🇬🇧🌱

  3. An acquaintance of mine gave up. She got so much hassle from locals, including the farmer who sold her the land in the first place (he wanted to continue to control how it was used & outright bullied her about living on it) People (snooty old Nimbys) repeatedly reported her to the council (mainly the farmer who sold her the land) & 2 other mean women in the village. She lived on it in a static caravan but you couldn't even see her property from the road as the hedges & gates were huge. I only knew it was there because my kids used to ride her horses. She wasn't doing anyone any harm at all. In the end the council said she couldn't live there. She ended up selling up. I'm not sure why people treated her so badly. She kept herself to herself and wasn't any trouble. Be careful who you buy your land off. I don't think she knew the law that well or had access to a lawyer. I think she should have stood her ground but I think she just felt defeated in the end.

  4. I have to think this has to do with something other than just living off-grid. Essentially, living off-grid could amount to buying a normal house on 20 acres and disconnecting the electricity from your house. Why would the government care. I have the suspicion that what they care about is a bunch of shacks being assembled as living quarters that don't meet any of the building codes, and they are likely concerned about property values and the corresponding lack of property taxes that will be collected. If I buy a property near yours and I build a nice house, my property value will drop a lot because of your shack. Your problem is not really the government, it is your possible neighbors.

  5. It makes< sense, BTC and ETH is off helping to regulate, rather that pretend it won't ever happen. The big institutions getting in is the catalyst that will launch us into the stratosphere. Most people don't like change but after the change is made they grow used to it and it becomes a non issue usually because their fears never materialize. And benefits they were unaware with before turn out to be far more beneficial. Few if any rug pulls. The projects that initiated the process of regulation have not been ruined, they got involved in setting guidelines and helping the regulators understand the crypto space. I’d get involved more knowing that I have made over 16` btc from day-trade with Enoch Vance Crypto in few weeks.

  6. The system doesn't want anyone independent, they want dependency upon gov. I live on a boat, off grid to a degree and there seems to be more restrictions coming in more and more. The amount of residential marina's being shut is staggering. Once shut down they build super expensive properties with your own pontoon.. all for the rich. The marina I'm at atm is under threat so have been looking at getting back on land off grid but seem to be hit with a near on impossible endeavour. I'm sure there is ways and will continue to look and research until something suitable is found.
