Tomar as one of the Top 3 places to live in Portugal

#Tomar #CentralPortugal #D7VISA #FromUSAtoPT #MovingtoPortugal

In this video, you will find the reasons why we believe Tomar should be in the Top 3 list of places in Portugal to live in. We spoke based on our own experience living in Central Portugal, Tomar, for almost 5 months so far and also based on a visit we did back in 2019. Needless to say, we are loving it!! We hope you find this video helpful. Please let us know if we missed any other reasons.

  1. I just subscribed to your account, and I am planning to retire in Tomar in about a year when I turn 67. I live in USA and want to buy an apartment or small home in Tomar. I loved your video and will keep on watching more! 👍Thank you. ❣️🌟❣️

  2. Thanks for this detailed video on Tomar.
I and my husband are from India and are thinking about moving to Portugal.
Since we both are freelance web developers, the main concern for us to move anywhere is about the internet speed and reliability.
Also are there power cuts in Tomar do we also have to look for power backup in Tomar?
Sorry, but from where I come from electricity and internet reliability is a big issue.

  3. Heyyy lot of love from me , as a immigrant how is it living there , do you know statistics about population about tomar based on people are starting to living there or people are leaving from there , ???? How it will be in future tomar ?? I love tomar ,love train ,greet from entroncamento

  4. Loved the video! It's making me seriously consider Tomar instead of Porto as the city to move to. I'm watching your video in December 2021, now that you've been there for December, how's is the weather in Tomar during this month? Thank you!!! 🙂 & hello from California!!

  5. Leyda-Gaby your snippets on Pt esp Tomar are a delight to watch. You make a dynamic couple you, simplicity, Leyda's mirthfulness and Gaby's cool attitude with a delectable taste for hot coffee(thankfully its close to his latino taste) are adorable. I vouch for your philosophy!

  6. Thanks for this great overview of Tomar! We fell in love with the city when we visited in early September. We're coming back in May to look for a place to live in central Portugal. Your description of the weather was super helpful and answered a lot of our questions since we weren't there long enough to get a sense. We live in Sacramento, central California where the heat (and increasingly wildfire smoke) is so oppressive. We loved how green the countryside was in late summer and even had rain during our stay, which was so refreshing! Thanks for all your videos. Can't wait to get back to Tomar.

  7. I just found your channel in searching for Tomar videos. Trying to seek out towns that have under 100k residents but still vibrant, with plentiful services, good weather (not scorching hot in summer or bone-chilling damp in winter) and walkable/good transportation options. Can’t wait to watch more and learn from you both!

  8. I appreciate all the information. Very, very informative and helpful in a way that is not intimidating. When I watch your videos, I always get the feeling of "I can do this…" I'm a 56-year-old high school English teacher who hopes to retire in Portugal. I will likely seek a teaching job in the International schools to work for the first 3-4 years to help with the transition.

  9. 1:50 – The best thing about Tomar in that aspect is that the you have a freeway (free as in not paid, unlike the ones you have to take to Lisbon, Porto or Coimbra) directly to the nearest big city, Leiria, and to all the great beaches of the West region.
11:30 – In Portugal we call it "centro comercial" but most people call it by its name, for better distinction. For instance, for the two that you mention in Torres Novas we say Torres Forum and Torreshopping (although many people say only shopping) but usually people only say the first name, like Colombo or Vasco da Gama or Amoreiras or Corte Inglês (these are shopping centres in Lisbon).
15:30 – One of the advantages of the mediterranean diet, which is the basis of our food here in Portugal, is that it usually has so many vegetables that if you remove the meat or the fish from certain dishes you'll have a vegetarian dish. Plus, almost all pratos do dia include soup and 99% of our soups are vegetarian-friendly. So, if you think the "adapted" vegetarian dish won't be enough for you, you can always start with the soup of the day. However, it'll be very difficult to find a restaurant in Portugal that doesn't have fish dishes. Unless you only eat salmon. ; )
22:00 – That's one of the smartest things to do when starting to learn a new language! I don't know if you "got rid" of the TV service that was included in your cable/fibre contract but if you didn't, don't do it! Just turn on the TV on a portuguese channel and let it just sit there, even if you're not paying attention directly to what's going on. It'll be a huge contribution to your learning process because TV presenters, news anchors and even advertising voice-overs tend to talk slower than what people usually do in their daily life. : )

  10. This is exactly the kind of quality f life I am looking for, history, tradition and culture, thank you for sharing your video. we have been to portugal twice and especially in lisbon and fatima and enjoyed our vacation, good luck and God bless.

  11. Hi guys! You seem such a sweet couple! I'm from Spain but I'm half Portuguese. You have me smiling, because you chose to live in my favourite place in Portugal, Tomar. Tomar is my mum's home city, she lives here in Spain, but most of my aunties, uncles and cousins live there. I have "saudades de Tomar" and my family! By the way, my favourite place in Tomar is the Mochao and the parks around it! Please, enjoy it for me and the "bolos" 🤭. Xau!

  12. Very cool. Looking to retire in Portugal in the next couple of years and central Portugal is high on the list as I think we're going to want to buy a small farm. So far my searching it's going to be quite affordable compared to the US.

  13. Best to you on this channel! I just subbed! Just curious, as native Spanish speakers, how much of Portuguese do you already understand?

  14. I am so excited to find your channel. We are from San Diego. For the last year I’ve been researching Portugal online and came across Tomar because there is a yearly horse festival nearby. There seems to be very little online regarding Tomar and your channel is so helpful. Keep up the good work!

  15. I am so glad I found your videos. You give great details! Since you made your residency in Michigan prior to getting your visa, did you need to rent a place, or were you staying with family? We are planning the same of cutting our California ties ( due to tax reasons) and moving to Texas ( no state taxes and have family there). Will the consulate accept a mail service location, such as UPS, for a valid address? How did you handle this? (My husband grew up in Midland, MI.)
