  1. One comment about violence in the USA compared to Portugal in the news. While I would tend to agree there is more violence in the USA, we hear in the news of not only local violence, but nationwide, especially in the bigger cities. Portugals neighbor Spain is only slightly bigger than California. Texas dwarfs most of Western Europe. Imagine your impressions of crime in Portugal if you heard nightly of crimes that were 2000 miles away from where you live, you would probably then have the same impression, but those crimes are 10 countries away, not the same country.

  2. 05:29 I actually can't agree with you. Portuguese highways are MUCH better than the US ones, really!

08:50 This weather is not actually the usual weather in this time of the year in Portugal. The country right now is experiencing a huge drought, only comparable to the one in 2005, and if it doesn't rain until summer, there will be really bad news! Today I went to the Alentejo and it's sad to see literally EVERYTHING dry in February – generally in this time of the year the country would be really lush and green and not grey!

09:23 For the ones that doesn't now what are the 40s they are talking about, those are 4,5ºC.

  3. It’s good to know you’re back and still enjoying yourselves! 🙂
I’ve got close relatives in the US and they tell me that, sometimes, the cultural “atmosphere” feels like a civil war, with extreme polarisation and very little room to accommodate even listening to what the “other side” has to say. Unfortunately, COVID seems to have been captured by that “culture war” nonsense as well…

  4. Great comparisons, but go to California and you will appreciate Portuguese highways and even tolls because you will understand what you pay for!! Anyone who visits understands that the only thing they must bring with them is…Corn tortillas so I get missing tacos!! My theory on safety is that there is a huge police presence, in Lisbon anyhow! Also, the police are so nice, but i don't think you want to mess with them or be incarcerated!! Yep, I do not miss the 'American mentality' towards many things and Portugal did the right thing by taking the politics out of covid!! ❤Portugal even after my SEF appointment…It's all good though!!!

  5. Killing someone just because the day goes wrong, or because a robbery goes wrong, very rarely happens.

what unfortunately happens with some frequency is homicides between couples, husband killing his wife because of divorce is undoubtedly the type of murder that most happens in portugal.

As for the rest of other crimes, theft exists in all countries and Portugal is no exception. As far as I remember there was only 1 bank robbery with hostages
