Vlog #72 Starting a new life in Portugal | Do we know what we really want?

In this video I’ve moved on to my next house sit in Braga, Northern Portugal. This is a follow-on from the last video as I reflect on my move to Portugal and starting a new life in a new country.

  1. Olá Luise, It was fun to catch your live-chat with Cindy earlier.
First, I need to show this to my 33 year old daughter. She needs to see that I have a twin out there… LOL – I drive her crazy jumping from one thing to another and back again. I just have so many things to share, or think about… my brain doesn't slow down, ha ha. I loved the messages in those clips. 100%!!
I agree with you about the tiles. The terracotta ones I can be down with… they aren't as cold and they are a warmer colour but those unnatural shiny tiles… or marble. No thank you!
Feliz Ano Novo Luise, thank you soooo much for sharing and waffling for us. I'm telling you, it might be fun to have a monthly (or weekly) Waffle with Luise. xo

  2. Lovely chat! Thanks for waffling!:-) The persistent rain here in the PNW keeps me one step ahead of it…lots of rugs, good slippers, space heaters, fake light machine for SAD and outdoor walks to appreciate the warmth. Keep smiling!

  3. Well,, You have to have a very thick wallet to get perfect, so a affordable compromise is what most of us end up with. Meaning that we have to compromise until we can afford it 🙂
Merry Christmas Solo 50plus Portugal 🙂

  4. I totally get you with the waffling. We haven't really had full choices most of our lives. Now that 100% of it is ours it's hard to know where to start, or what the goal is anymore. I'm having the same issues, but definitely thinking I need a small base, walking distance to a cafe/mercado. I think I can live anywhere and make it work, which makes the decision even harder to choose where! Lol.

  5. Totally get you! Including the gallopping mind and getting stuck in the sentences. Nothing wrong with that!!
This video made so much sense to me. Thank you!
The pealing of a union is such a good prescription of what is going on.

Please, please, don't be so hard on yourself about how you tell something. I have not come across someone more genuine yet. Your video's really help me to understand myself, make sense of my struggles on this path and to have the guts to really be and do me. Thanks!

  6. Having lost my husband this may. I do understand your need to find yourself before you commit to anything. Hopefully you will find what you are looking for, or you may have to build or have it built.for you. good luck for the future. I am an expat in France, and will not make any decisions until I'm sure it is right for me. By the way I do enjoy your waffle as you call it, please keep it up. It feels like company although you are not really here.

  7. I grew up with tiles. There is nothing worst than putting bear feet on a tile floor in an unheated house, Well, We had throw rags every where, so slippers are the soltion, I live in the US with alot of carpets. When we moved to Florida we immediatly tiled the whole house,,, Loved it.

  8. So one of the wonderful revelations of getting older is that we realise we don't have to justify anything to anyone as to the lifestyle we live. We live very simply with our feet firmly in the 50's as was our childhood together with the good that is found now. We easily ditch the company of anyone who doesn't like it. We take the good experienced all through our lives and just enjoy life. I hope you get to your simple comfortable space soon.

  9. Girl, you are so sweet!!! I struggled with Invisaligns as well but just on the bottom. I get it. I also get you! I moved from Silicon Valley Calif to Vancouver BC 40 years ago and now feel that I am ready to experience the same things that you are looking for-simplicity, better human connections, nature and further self discovery just to name the big ones. I also really want to reconnect with my ancestry in Spain and Portugal. I love to watch your vids and see what you have been up to. I’m not afraid of travelling alone and hope to travel and house sit just like you are doing. You are living my dream. 😊 I really hope we can meet on my travels someday soon.

  10. Hey Louise, you are such good Company, not everyone is as eloquent as the motivational speakers you refer to, but your message is coming through, thanks! Keep waffeling (is this the word? ) ❤️

  11. Feliz Navidad. I'm new to your channel. Enjoyed the subject which has so much I can relate to. Appreciate your style, honesty, so refreshingly genuine. (So ok to be all over the place at times)
My first solo Christmas outside of the UK, winter in Spain and it is liberating. Thank you

  12. Luise, I don't get to watch all your videos but those I've seen so far are very enlightening. You are such a genuine kind person. I would say do what brings you joy, and what your heart desires.❤
I say to people my belief is we are on a journey of life experiences and only we can decide what is right for us. As you mentioned so many choices and influences can impact on our journeys. But when it comes from the heart you know its right. ❤
Have a wonderful Christmas with some of those lovely people you have met along the way. And may 2023 bring you what your heart desires. 💚

  13. I completely agree about houses with hard surfaces everywhere, especially when the surfaces are just flat and square (as opposed to bumpy stone.) I recommend a log house with wooden floors and a good log burner — hard to get cozier than that! I know, there are not many such houses in Portugal…

  14. Hehe! Merry Christmas! People worry too much about grown peoples life decisions! 🙄 What you’re doing seems cool to me. Exploring your fun options is such a privilege we have. You’re obviously thriving. Enjoy!

  15. This makes complete sense Luise 👏 You might also find the Access Consciousness 'movement' helpful and inspiring. We have had similar realisations recently!!! Many motivations are inherited or reactions rather than our true good feeling compass. Good luck to you in this journey of discovery or rather un-covery in 2023… ❤🙏

  16. Merry Christmas 🙂 this is so very very very true, in Portugal, there's always a Neighbough that'll drop handmade produce or locally grown stuff. It's one of the many things we adore here – people care for each other <3

  17. Pura vida 🙌🙌simple life not just a phrase but a way of life 🙂 totally get where you are coming from…it your personal journey and you have covered all aspects in your content 🙏🙏

  18. Great video I totally get it, I have been slowly renovating a cottage in Hungary but as times go by I wonder if I really want to live there, I need a year, 4 seasons there to decide if I really want it…I wonder if you will finally buy in Portugal???

  19. This is very serendipitous. The clip you showed with Vishn is from the book I’m studying. He took his program from The Silva Method. His courses are hundreds of dollars, the book is available free as a PDF online. It’s teaches how to create what you really want

  20. Happy holidays Louise. Thanks for following up with us. Funny enough, I truly understand all you explained.
During my visit, I did loved the assessablity of lovely grown fruits and food I grow up with that doesn't excess where I am now. However, I need warmth and the cold homes would not be suitable for my health. Maybe the location in Portugal needs to be greatly researched. I do alway love the free nature live style you are enjoying. Merry Christmas 🍷

  21. Aww, Foster🐈 is a cutie. I have a soft eye for cow-colored kitties 😊. I think Portugal's been a good match for your desire to enjoy an outdoors and simpler life. Appreciate your keeping it real about the damp and how much colder the damp and tiled surfaces makes you feel. Can't praise the effects of underfloor heating and insulation enough — I'd need this too if ever i was blessed to live in Portugal. Thanks for getting back to us with your continued backstory. Merry🎄Christmas🌟, Luise.

  22. I always knew what l want from my early years and went for it and got It. If you aim hight and persevere , you get there . I am at the end of my life and l thank my Heavenly father for all its blessings. My road was not easy but full of adventures, but l would do it all again : worth all the pain heart ache and the joy . And now contentment. IF YOU DONT TAKE RISK YOU GET NOTHING.Merry Christmas darling Louise, and a big hug.
