In this video, we discuss some of our water challenges, how we currently manage water, where our water comes from and what we plan to do in the future!
Hi there 🙂 We’re Marc & Allys, a couple of left the UK in search of somewhere we could build a homestead, live more self sufficiently, off the grid and connect with nature. This led us to the beautiful Alentejo region in Portugal.
This video is an introduction and a bit about how we got here.

Given your land size, I would recomend a borehole. Might be expensive but its a long term solution. Also there is enough water underground to sustain everyone .
you may refer to 'the indie projct' i'm sure you will get useful information regarding water tank, which they recently purchased.

duct tape and a stone… there you have it, MacGyver style! Love it!👏👏👏👏Nice vid

i live on the island of phuket in thailand. here every property has at least one well with a pump and only in the cities there is the usual water supply. at least once a year a pump fails, but the defect is quickly remedied. there are enough plumbers here who will fix it quickly for 15 euros max. despite the rainy season, which lasts 6 months, it happens that the wells are at a low ebb during the dry months. it takes about 1-3 days for the groundwater to rise again.
Maybe planting the veggies under the trees where there is already shade, just as an idea…because the soil there is probably pretty hard and dry, one has to add some at first
I enjoy watching your videos. It’s awesome to see land and videos from Alentejo.
Wishing the best with your water harvesting…
Do you know if porous clay pipes can be used instead of clay pot olllas? A pipe line buried in each grow bed could water it all but would be a lot easier to top up than individual pots.
I wish you all the best with your plans going forward. Nice channel!
