We Had to Make a DIFFICULT Decision (6 Months of Van Life Turkey Comes to An End)

We had grand plans for our Turkey finale – we wanted to end our 6 months here with a trip to Ephesus and Istanbul, going out on a high. But the stars just didn’t align for us. We have had an incredible time in this country, but new adventures await. Onwards to Greece!

Our big plan – Driving to Cape Town in our Van!

We’re Chesca and Ben and River (🐶 ) and we travel full-time in our self converted sprinter van, Sophia. After a year of travelling Europe, from Spain and Portugal to the island of Sicily, the pandemic brought us back home to the UK. Along with a secret project! We spent the winter re-building Sophia into a more sturdy overlanding rig, ready to take us across Africa – our next challenge. However, it’s a trip we’ve now had to postpone. But when the wind changes – adjust your sails! We’re now off on an Eastern voyage across to Greece, Turkey & beyond. I hope you enjoy this new adventure as we overland our way East.

  1. Everywhere now in the UK , villages, small towns, large towns and cities have set up donation points for blankets, medical stuff, day to day living stuff etc.for The Ukrainian people. Peeps should check their local Facebook groups for info. It’s really practical way to help with your spare stuff in times when money is so tight for so many people. Take care and have fun in Greece 👍

  2. Hi guys… great watching your epic time in Turkey, Cappadocia..wow!! Respect rescuing scout, what a great companion for you all, River is such a cool dog!
We hope to travel into Turkey later this year. Was interested to see Ben log in to see if you had any fines etc.. how did you do this, what website? Do you do similar in each country?
Thank you for sharing the Ukraine websites, as an English firefighter I am involved in sending fire appliances from Kent to Ukraine. We have donated to the field rescue kit site.
    Safe onward journey.

  3. İstanbulda tarihi yerleri gezmenizi önerirdim.Tekrar bekleriz.Aynı zamanda Çanakkale savaşlarının geçtiği yerleri de gezmenizi öneririm. Her iki milletten İngiltere ve biz Türklerden binlerce insan orada savaştılar.

  4. Good to see you had fun in Turkey, stole a dog, and even went to the Syrian border but didn't donate anything to the 4 million Syrian refugees who still need your help..typical westerners only white victims matter..now that you have become political expect comments like mine .. and I'm not happy that Russia have invaded another sovereign country and innocent people are getting killed and displaced…

  5. At difficult times like these it's also necessary to be honest; selective sensitivity is like selective application of law or the application of a discriminatory law: it breeds not moral engagement, but moral cynicism and moral nihilism.
It's frustrating even infuriating how open-ended wars and disaster fueled and/or supported by our own govts never spark this type of popular mobilization, in fact our govts actively censor and ban groups of citizens speaking out & supporting boycotts (UK banned another batch of pro-Palestinian groups lately).
    – Yemen is facing the worst humanitarian crisis, with Western military support and diplomatic immunity to the worst offenders (UK blocked UNSC condemnation of Saudi Arabia)
    – Palestine on the whole is occupied, civilians shot like in a barrel, ethnically cleansed, closed-off, homes demolished, no control over land/air/sea and Holy Sites' status quo violated.
    – Syrian catastrophe is never ending with war crimes on every side (Syrian govt, Sunni militias, Kurdish-PKK militias, US+allies) and US illegally occupying land and partaking in stealing of natural resources
    – Including Horrendous bombing of russian-speaking areas of Ukraine, actively censored in most EU/US media, so that every mention can be attributed to Russian "actors".
But, when the X-trigger words come into play, when it's not the good guys violating international law, when refugees have "blue eyes", it's the moral imperatum that silences both other struggles and discussion on context.

  6. Good and important to know what is going "on", evil is always evil! Democracy and one person one vote is basic to understand! Like freedom and freedom of speech and as well a free press! Take care 💖

  7. Thank you so much for this information! We are still travelling in Turkey and wanted to help the Ukraine people! We have not seen any donation centres here so will use your links to make some donations! Istanbul looks too scary for us in our big arse Hymer so think we will give it a miss! Stay safe guys xxx

  8. Great to see you all safely in Greece 🙂
My full sympathy as a fellow migraine sufferer they are awful.
Hope you get to have a lovely relaxing time at the pretty beach park up. ATB Suz and Ste 💜

  9. Ive travelled through Istanbul in the back of a mini bus driven by a local driver and that was bad enough, so my hat goes off to you Ben for driving there mate. I was waiting to see if you would have issues getting through to Greece after seeing the hassle that John and Mandy had. Good to see that the Greeks had changed the rules and made it a bit simpler for you guys. Looking forward to seeing where you visit as you travel through Greece. See you next weekend, be careful and stay safe.

  10. wow, what a crazy last week in Turkey!
Glad you made it over the border and wishing you safe travels home. Great info on donating. What a tragic situation. love to all four of you, ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  11. Funny we did exactly the same, (we never had dogs and were in a transporter)- but we bypassed Istanbul on our way into Turkey and then went to Greece through another border on our way out. But we flew back to Istanbul a few months later and spent two weeks there. Xx

  12. It is very difficult for you to travel with two dogs in Istanbul with a population of 20 million. It is difficult to find a place to park your caravan in the historical peninsula. Best of all, you could travel around Istanbul very easily by using the Marmaray metro line, which is 5 minutes' walk from where you parked in Maltepe. I guess no one advised you. We loved you. We definitely look forward to seeing you again. But this time, come in April-May-June and enjoy the nature and the sun. Have a good journey…

  14. Oh, man! When I read the title before watching the video, I was really scared that you were gonna have to leave Scout behind or something. I’m glad that wasn’t the case! The whole Scout story is so heartwarming and I’m glad that he has a great family, traveling the world and receiving lots of love!

  15. I wish to see you guys again in Turkey in the future. I am sorry about your last week because you guys are very nice people. But sometimes life doesn t go as you plannened. Take care love from Turkey. 🙂

  16. I came into Turkey on my digital return with Tread the Globe and I’m leaving with you. Turkey is one of those places you leave wanting more and thanks to you I now have a list of new places to visit next time. Ephesus is absolutely amazing but those marble streets would be lethal in the rain. The best way I found to get around Istanbul was the metro. It’s fast, efficient and not crowded outside of rush hour. Looking forward to adding some more places for a return trip to Greece as well.

  17. Hey guys. We've been following you for some time now. Very good honest videos. I'll be heading to Turkey in a few months for 2 weeks of self guided touring. I'm concerned about the wild dogs. Any advice? Doesn't Turkey pick up strays? It sounds like a bad situation. We're are looking forward to you guys in Greece.

Yine gelin. Sevgiyle kalın.
