That was my itinerary last month. Started in HCMC and then Old Quarter Hanoi. Hanoi is a great hub for Ha Long Bay, then back to Hanoi, then Hoi An and then Da Nang.

I spent 2 days in Hoi An, wished I only scheduled 1 day.

Personally, I loved Old Quarter Hanoi, Ha Long Bay (2 day cruise) and Da Nang!!!

I arrived on 13/5 , at least 80-90% of 'tourists ' were Vietnamese or asian. What is the foreign tourist demographic ? No chinese tourists is a huge issue.

Because the e-visa starts the day you state you are going to arrive when you apply. That is a big turn off for many tourists. Valid for 3 months start the day you arrive for 30 days would help.

I don't think many Westerns will come until November, The weather is a lot better in Europe and North America than in Vietnam at the moment. I think your right about the Visa , they where getting pissy about the long stayers before Covid, they ain't going to bring them back in same form as before they have no need to Covid has proved that.

Saw a few koreans (family) in saigon yesterday . Haven't been to bui vien since i arrived last friday but have not seen any other tourists. Kinda enjoy it. Still bad for business though. China situation is really bad for Vietnam tourism . No check on insurance when i arrived. Not sure about increase of tourism during wet season though

I want to come next month for two months …I can see a few fish hooks going into Cambo or Thailand even overnight as you would still have to comply with there entry requirement ? Or am I over thinking it ? The reason for Vietnam is easy entry . Is it possible to get a one month extension from within the country ?

At the very least they need to bring back the 30 day multi-entry Visa. Very handy if you want to break up Vietnam with a few days in Cambodia, for example.

What would be the easiest e-visa extension run if I was in the North for the first 30days (Hanoi-Ninh Binh-Dien Bien phu-Sapa-Ha Giang-Cao Bang-Ha Long trip planned)

Long term visas are necessary mostly for Vietnamese American, specially the older generation. They used to stay 3-6 months.

I applied April 15, 2 weeks ago I got a email from the Vietnamese embassy in Canada stating I needed a guide, I will not get a guide in fact I will cancel my trip if I have to have one. I called the embassy and was told to reapply in July to see if things change. Im looking to spend 2 months and maybe that’s the problem.
