  1. There goes the open borders. What nonsence. EU has gone total crazy. Were they unprofessional. I imagine they only stop a small % of cars to justify their nonsense activities and jobs. Safe travels Jasper. Hopefully, this is a one time event. Happened to me once crossing the border from Canada to the States.

  2. LOL, you are not supposed to be filming at the border Jesper. Bad Boy 🙂
But the last time I got stopped in Monaco, I flirted like mad with the female officer. and she loved my
Canadian accent in French. It got so bad her colleague came over after 5 mins of us talking and laughing, to tell her off and get the line moving.
I almost got her phone number too.

  3. After you sell the van , then you need to buy a truck for work needs, cause with all the building and getting materials you will need one .. then when you can get a small car for everyday usage to the grocery store , or site seeing and trips. I'm going to be sad when you sell Vanessa , she suits you and the girls so well.

  4. You can import a 2nd hand light commercial van from Holland (max 2/3 seats). Import taxes are lower for this type of vehicle and also yearly road tax (imposto unico de circulação). Anything with 5 seats is classified as "turismo"/passenger and pays a lot more. Also try to find an office near your place that deals with "Portuguese bureaucracy". They'll take care of all paperwork like COC and also going to the tax and vehicle registry office, they can also give you a rough figure how much you would pay. These days there's a high demand for both new and 2nd hand vehicles in Portugal, so I'd rather buy a Mercedes Benz Sprinter in Holland, get temporary licence plates and insurance, drive it to Portugal and licence it here. When you finish the renovation you can sell it.
Also be careful about recording videos at country borders…

  5. a young guy in a van coming from portugal going to holland… lol ..this kind of little setback is inevitable once in a while..
I think it went pretty smoothly ..it doesn't matter, they are just doing their job, theres no reason to get paranoid, look relaxed, smile, when you speak to then and that's it 🙂 ..i have to say you looked a bit tense, thats always a red flag for them..
besides, just try to cross the swiss border like this, then youll never complain again of what happened to you in this video , believe me ;))

  6. The French police is one the most Racists Bastards you can find in the World ….. they were Extremely rude and treated you or for sure everyone with Suspicion and Discrimination , down or the French Police and their Bastard Racist Government.

  7. You aren't done with needing the van as long as you plan on building and hauling. Could leave in parents or sister's address in Holland when licensing and inspecting. We have extreme weather also (hot and cold) and it's not about to change. Devise your own car port, your are creative enough. Even canvas tenting could help.

  8. I’ve seen a few others in Portugal who have had to purchase a car in Portugal due to the same issues you have had. They had issues finding a used car but after much searching eventually did find one. I wish you luck.
