XG has to be put with context. 10 shots with 1.2 XG is not always better than two shots with 1XG. Two shots with .50XG each are better quality chances. Just having high XG doesn't mean your team was better. Dominating a game 70% possession and Shooting 10 times from outside the box isn't always better than 30% possession and 2 shots with .50 Xg per shot. So many times the team with 30% possession and higher quality chances win those game. the Mourinho tactics work for a reason. So often counter attacks create better quality chances due to outnumbering the unorganised exposed defence.
