If you are seeking to use the Golden Visa for Portugal, you may want to start that process sooner than later.
I am hoping this will reduce real property prices. I saw many home prices raise when they increased the golded visa requirement to $500k. There is currently a long wait for approval of golden visas for construction. There is no guarantee that any visas presently being processed and not approved, will be if the program ends. I would not assume that rushing to apply now will assure you get a gold visa, they may just deny the applications submitted but not approved prior to the cancellation of the program. Malta is ending their program as well. The EU is upset about the Russian and Chinese security issues created by golden visas. My advice would be don't make a $500k purchase on the basis that any applications made will be processed if the program is halted.
Hi Joric, We will be applying for D 7 retire visa next year but still not decide the city – greater Lisbon/ Porto Province / Porto city / Setubal or Coimbra ? planning to survive on rental income and small digital business. Your though on above cities ? we are 55 + English speaking . Thanks in advance
Thanks for info Joric,
Thx for covering this! (Not that it's a factor, personally, but all good info is good to have)
If analysis of the resulting numbers shows GV to not benefit the citizens in any great capacity, then I absolutely support canning it. Sounds like it's doing less damage than some of the "reporting" would lead one to believe, so that's good too. I'm much more confident in the Portuguese to find workable solutions than here at home, lol…ugh.
I like the idea of the Golden Visa because I’d have less restrictions on how long I have to stay in Portugal and the chance to have an investment property I would leave to my nephews. I don’t have kids, but 2 are French citizens and the rest are American. But, I wouldn’t do it for a few years, and maybe, not at all. I’m still exploring where I’d like to move and when.
Another interesting/fact-based video from Joric. While I’m personally not considering the Golden Visa option for myself or family; I find your research (from a fact-based perspective) to be very enlightening. As you alluded to, from everything I’m hearing through various channels—I was under the impression PT had tons of folks coming into the country under the Golden Visa program. Thanks again for your research and fact-based analysis. 📊
Hi. Do you know what is going to happen to the D7 visa, with the launching of the Digital nomad visa?
