BEWARE of taking the highway to Lisbon!

Hi, I’m Nick and I’ve been living in the Algarve for over 20 years. Today my daughter, Isabella, and I discover a section of the EN2, an old road that was commissioned 77 years ago and is now the longest road in Europe and one of three roads in the world that cross entire countries.

Great restaurants en route:
➣A Tia Bia – Barranco do Velho

➣Casa dos Presuntos – Cortelha

➣Tasquinha o medronho – Almodôvar

I can help you!
—————–
➣VIDEO CALLS Many of you have asked for a paid 45 minute one on one consultations. I can talk with experience on where to live in the Algarve, and what to expect when living here. I charge US$100 (because I’m really busy) Book a time on
and then pay through Paypal

  1. Nick it was great bumping into you in Loule. Who would have thought a girl from the United States would be watching your YouTube videos and then meet you in Loule Algarve! Best of luck with all your videos. I have enjoyed them. Thank you . Maria Almeida

  2. Last november my family and I went down to the Algarve for the second time, but this time we decided to avoid the highway, partly because it’s boring and partly because the tools are too expensive. We loved the experience! Thankyou for this video! I checked it here to choose which road I was gonna take back in november but didn’t find anything. No doubt this video is going to be of great value for those who hate highways like me!

  3. Great video Nick! I agree 💯 take your time and see different things. Soon all those motorcycles will be electric and quiet. Haha

Route 66 gets all the headlines, but Route 20 is the longest road across the US. (That is not a highway) It runs from Boston on the East coast to Oregon on the west coast. Through big cities, Boston and Chicago many small towns and Yellowstone National Park.

  4. Absolutely wonderful video! 1. Being a civil/traffic engineer, I love your historic road references between US, PT and Argentina! 2. I commend you for your daughter’s command of the English language. Being of Italian-descent, I struggled to have my 2 loving kids speak or understand Italian. Extremely difficult when living in US and married to an English-only spouse. Parabens! Love to know how she learned English (future video?). 3. Your daughter also appears to be very level-headed. Does she take after her mom? 🤣 🤣 4. I thought you only see motorcycles on weekends in California. 😁 5. Great advice to take life slowly and enjoy PT. Looking forward to the day when we move (hopefully) to PT. 6. Finally, great idea to do videos on your drive “up north.” Looking forward to it. All the best. 👍🏻

  5. This is so great. As I dream of retiring from a corporate job in the U.S. to Portugal or Spain,.the entire point is slowing down to enjoy what life has to offer. Thanks for the reminder and encouragement!

  6. Sorry, Nick – Route 66 in the US started in Chicago and ended in Santa Monica California. It was almost 4,000 km long but now is a memory, having been cut up by "development". But no matter, still a fun memory and good context for your latest video which, as always, is appreciated by those of us who dream of traveling and living in Portugal. Can't wait to see more!

  7. Back in the day 40-50 years ago I used to stay in Algarve for 2 months and my trip from Almada to Lagos we used to stop in Alentejo to eat snails and have lunch. Good times and great memories i have with my parents.

  8. Oh yeah. My first taste of sopa da pedra was on a trip from Lisbon to the Algarve. We stopped in a roadside café in Almerim. The whole journey took 4.5 hours back then. Whenever Ive done it since, it's 1.5 hours on the highway at a cost of something like €25 in tolls (possibly more now!)
