DIDN'T REALLY THINK THIS THROUGH – VAN LIFE – WHAT'S NEXT? – (Buying Off Grid Land in Portugal)

Our van life adventure continues in Portugal and you join us today near the capital at an abandoned nature reserve.. We continue to stay close to the coast whilst we wait for the temperatures to calm down so we can venture inland and look for some off grid land. We find a great van life park up at Foz De Sizandro further north and discuss the pros and cons of buying off grid land in Central Portugal….

  1. Hi, I have been watching a few British vanlifers trying to buy land in Portugal over the last couple of months and it appears to be a nightmare. They want it seems for your to become Portuguese citizens first plus all the other technicalities that go with it that most have changed their mind on the decision. Is it worth buying land in Spain rather than there?

  2. Even though at first glance it may seem a bit scary… LOL The place where they were (Sitio das Hortas) is a Pic Nic and Barbecue area, where families hang out on weekends… more during the summer. It is also a place for bird watching and observation.
It is a wild area, because it is part of the Tagus Estuary Natural Reserve. And this place is home to more than 120,000 birds.

And it's located in Vila de Alcochete… a fantastic place to live, and Perhaps one of the safest places in the entire region… Alcochete is very famous for its stunning sunsets… and for the food, people, and its parties… and these people like parties lol

That's why you can rest assured… that Alcochete is safe, and a fantastic place to explore.

P.S. and all these nets and boats… are owned by amateur fishermen, who on weekends are passionate about going fishing in the river… it is a very rich place for sea food.

  3. You do right to consider all the options, pros and cons and until you are actually there its very difficult to know how you will feel. Land purchase is a big thing sp best to take your time – as you say if you fall in love with a property – you will have your answer

  4. Can I just suggest that you DO acclimatise gradually when you live in a place. I lived in Israel (Siniai) for several years and when people were holidaying there from the UK in Winter I was wearing sweatshirts and jeans when those holiday makers were stripping off and saying how hot it was ♥♥😁😁

  5. It’s very interesting to get your views and experiences from Portugal. My folks used to go there a lot and really liked it. But they were only there a couple of weeks at a time. Central Portugal sounds too hot and I’m mindful that climate change could make it unbearable, if its not already. My plans for Italy are evolving. I still love the Adriatic coast and the national parks in Abruzzo/Molise. But my trip a bit further south and into the mountains, has shown me there are some good possibilities and if you don’t go too high, the winters are mild. The town I stayed in is part of a scheme to encourage people to the smaller communities and you get €10,000 if you move there and work. Plus I can get residency, even as a current UK resident. I’m going to check all this but it looks promising. I’d like a small place with a bit of land, but I checked house prices in town and a modest place was €15,000. Anyhow, I’m looking forward to this weeks vlog despite the minor disaster you’ve had. I’m sure it will still be a great watch as usual. PS Life would be pretty dull, if it always went to plan. Massive hugs

  6. i can see you guys with a nice camp site in devon or cornwall. i bet you would get a huge following. maybe something for the future when you feel like resting in cooler temps.

  7. Had 38 in my van in Norfolk the other week!!! and it is survival 100 percent 🥵Hyperthermia is incredibly dangerous especially for Dogs, my new mutt spent all day in a washing basket full of water and wet cloths over him etc… Wise move me thinks, you have to try this things it's the adventure of life right! 🤗 … As Anthony Bourdain said "Be a traveller not a tourist" X Enjoy and stay safe guys!!! Oh and always, always always Vaseline yer nuts!!!! 😂😂😂😂X JP

  8. Another great vlog you 2 stay on the road for as long as you can you've got some where to live in Spain so get a bigger van .Motorhomes are a good investment so you can always get your money back when it's time to settle down .vinnie kneeds new struts . Take care cu next week stay safe the gowerz Portsmouth x

  9. Do what you do best. Buy a new van with more living space and off-grid capability… instead of land….and travel more. Land is Ok….but hard to make interesting/unique content from it….land/property is a bit boring if its not yours 🙂

  10. G’day from Switzerland, I would say your struts are buggered ☹️ but if your after a quick fix buy some cheap aluminum U channel, cut it to the length of the smaller sized part of the strut when the back door is fully open. (make sure the U channel is just big enough to fit over the smaller side of the strut so measure that before buying 😉) then when you open the door just clip that piece in and it will keep the door from closing, if it’s a heavy door you might want to make one for the other side too, just make sure they are the same length.
I enjoy your videos, always fun to watch… keep up the work..!
greetings from a Kiwi in Switzerland
    Cheers Rick

  11. Hi guys great to see you both happy and enjoying your travels. I would definitely get some land very soon in Portugal or Spain so you can be self sufficient IE food, water. Everything you see happening in this world is no accident . It’s all coordinated. Hope you find something soon . Steve b 🇬🇧 👍

  12. Lovely video this evening, that abandoned, haunted house looked fab, great idea to buy it if you can find out who owns it. Don't stop travelling, we would all miss your adventures in gorgeous Vinny, he's so cute 😍

  13. H guys
Just love watching you two and your lovely dogs.
You always show us such lovely places.
Would hate to have to make a decision on either land or van😀😀, but I am sure you will work it out,
Anyway thanks again for your lovely videos
Always a pleasure watching you both
    Take care.
