Why He Completely Loves Portugal and Is an Algarve Addict

Josh from ExpatsEverywhere sits down with Nick from Algarve Addicts to talk about the expat life in the Algarve. Nick has been an expat in Portugal for over 20 years. He came to Portugal in his early 30s to work for a family member at a restaurant and never left.

Find out why Nick never left and what has kept him in Portugal for so long.

Nick knows the Algarve forwards and backwards, probably because he’s paddle it from end to end twice! He loves highlighting all of the spots in the region on his channel to let his viewers know what they can expect when they move here and what activities they can get involved in while living here. Pop over to his channel to check out his content:

We have recently launched a course to help DIY the D7 visa for Portugal. The course includes step-by-step videos, checklists, resources, recommendations, discounts, and more. It breaks down the timeline and when and how to do things, plus gives action items to keep you on task but not be overwhelmed. Check it out here:

  1. A big "hello" to all the expats out there in beautiful Portugal. Here is another Portugal lover. Thank you so much for the lovely video! Enjoyed watching it, as some years ago I travelled to all the places you mentioned myself. Loved staying at the simple "Turismos Rurais" in former quintas and have very good memories of the incredible hospitality & generosity of my friend in Faro – unforgetable!!! <3
Trying to cultivate my Portuguese & live a little bit of that sweet Portuguese vibe here in Vienna whenever possible 😉 Let's keep the good vibes up! Love to all you people out there <3

  2. Brilliant interview! I'd like to move to Portugal in the next few years but I am still undecided on where to live. I like that lifestyle similar to Hawaii where you can get the best of both worlds where there are modern condominiums with beach close to it (coastal city like Honolulu and Sydney). The closest I can find is Cascais but it's very expensive, is there any suggestions that fit the criteria? Thank you!

  3. As a South African Portuguese it's just great to hear a fellow South African who loves the Algarve. I myself have been designing luxury homes in the so called "Golden Triangle and other areas of the sunny Algarve. Great interview. @algarvearchitect (Instagram)

Be aware of the taxes…

  5. I'm interested in the area because it looks like the weather of Southern California without the politics and taxes.

And yes, I'm all for historic preservation.

  6. I don't blame him, I went to Algarve two years ago and I fell in love with this place. I will be going back the last week of July 2021 and I can't wait. First I will visit my parents home Town and other places but Algarve here I come.

  7. Did you ever wonder where the name ‘Algarve ‘ came from? I bet many of these South African, British, American, Scandinavian and other expats have no clue… so much for being interested in your host country!

  8. Really enjoyed this interview, Capetown and Portugal , my two favourite spots in the world.
So interesting hearing Nicks story, really love his vlogs and enjoy your interviews with people, fascinating hearing what people have achieved in their lives….thank you 😎

  9. Great interview! We’ve been expats in the Middle East since beginning of 2015. Now there’s a possibility our brand can create a living for us we’re very interested in making the move from Dubai to Portugal! Really enjoying your channel!

  10. Glad Nick mentioned the staring. Arrived a few days ago in Portugal and certainly noticed it. Seem to be the only expat in the area at the moment. Disconcerting indeed, coming from the UK.

  11. Pity the Portuguese government have just restricted Brits from coming there unless vaccinated. We were going to come for holiday with the view to moving there but now we won't be doing that. Quite a bit of revenue will be lost now I suspect as quite a few people will not come due to this discrimination
