Josh from ExpatsEverywhere sits down with Nick from Algarve Addicts to talk about the expat life in the Algarve. Nick has been an expat in Portugal for over 20 years. He came to Portugal in his early 30s to work for a family member at a restaurant and never left.
Find out why Nick never left and what has kept him in Portugal for so long.
Nick knows the Algarve forwards and backwards, probably because he’s paddle it from end to end twice! He loves highlighting all of the spots in the region on his channel to let his viewers know what they can expect when they move here and what activities they can get involved in while living here. Pop over to his channel to check out his content:
We have recently launched a course to help DIY the D7 visa for Portugal. The course includes step-by-step videos, checklists, resources, recommendations, discounts, and more. It breaks down the timeline and when and how to do things, plus gives action items to keep you on task but not be overwhelmed. Check it out here:

Great video guys! I watch both of you and it was helpful to watch both of you discuss Faro and the Algarve. Thanks!
Thanks for video, how can we contact you?
Great interview. Nick's YouTube channel is helping us so much in our prep for moving to Portugal!
So much useful information! Great interviewer and a great local expert.
Great to hear a South African and specifically a Capetonian perspective on Portugal! 🇿🇦
Great interview and lots of info Nick, hoping to meet up with you when I get there next month in January 2022
Great informative film, thank you.
A big "hello" to all the expats out there in beautiful Portugal. Here is another Portugal lover. Thank you so much for the lovely video! Enjoyed watching it, as some years ago I travelled to all the places you mentioned myself. Loved staying at the simple "Turismos Rurais" in former quintas and have very good memories of the incredible hospitality & generosity of my friend in Faro – unforgetable!!! <3
Trying to cultivate my Portuguese & live a little bit of that sweet Portuguese vibe here in Vienna whenever possible 😉 Let's keep the good vibes up! Love to all you people out there <3
I agree… a car-free lifestyle is so liberating!
Americans are moving out wherever they can, the US is a dying fallen state.
algarve isnt portugal.. all places u are in algarve are tousist places.. not real algarve
u dont know portugal.. let alone algarve
Brilliant interview! I'd like to move to Portugal in the next few years but I am still undecided on where to live. I like that lifestyle similar to Hawaii where you can get the best of both worlds where there are modern condominiums with beach close to it (coastal city like Honolulu and Sydney). The closest I can find is Cascais but it's very expensive, is there any suggestions that fit the criteria? Thank you!
Nicks channel is fantastic, really enjoy his videos very helpful
I have been going to Lagos for 25 years and I know what you are saying…. I love it and I bought a place in Lagos and getting ready to move there
Want to open a small business in Algarve & settle here, any suggestions & advices will be most welcome,TIA
Great interview guys… Nick has helped me with his e/newsletter, a wealth of information every time.. See you in September Portugal
Fantastic interview/discussion with Nic, his passion and knowledge of Algarve is amazing. He is a brilliant fomt of info. thank you both xx
Fabulous interview. Nick, thank you so much for sharing so much valuable information. I am planning to move to the Algarve in late fall and will definitely get in touch for guidance. Best, Catherine
Funny, Ireland has the same myth with cars our tax is called VRT. Also I bet Ireland is more expensive to buy cars, it’s cheaper for us to buy and import cars from the uk and lay the VRT 🤯
As a South African Portuguese it's just great to hear a fellow South African who loves the Algarve. I myself have been designing luxury homes in the so called "Golden Triangle and other areas of the sunny Algarve. Great interview. @algarvearchitect (Instagram)
Portugal is beautiful. South Africa's pretty dangerous.
Blimey. South Africans love PT. It's very similar in geography.
Just a little carious. What is different between expat and immigrant? When white peoples moved to abroad they called themselves expat . When non white moved abroad they been called immigrants. Is it because expat sounds fancy than immigrants? 😜
Very nice conversation!
Be aware of the taxes…
Stop coming to Portugal. We have to build a wall! Lol
Thanks, this is so insightful. I’m Portuguese and I live outside Portugal, I can’t really afford a holiday in the Algarve. The last time I was there was in 1991.
I'm interested in the area because it looks like the weather of Southern California without the politics and taxes.
And yes, I'm all for historic preservation.
So there are many malls there. Won't be going to algarve.
Awesome video!
Just came across this interesting interview.
I would like to know where would a Christian worship there 🤔. Also what is the Healthcare system like. Thank you for any feedback.
This was fantastic! I enjoy Nick's work a lot and look forward to more content from both yourselves and Nick!
I don't blame him, I went to Algarve two years ago and I fell in love with this place. I will be going back the last week of July 2021 and I can't wait. First I will visit my parents home Town and other places but Algarve here I come.
Did you ever wonder where the name ‘Algarve ‘ came from? I bet many of these South African, British, American, Scandinavian and other expats have no clue… so much for being interested in your host country!
Good one.
“An old lady of 60! “ Wow! He lost me at that remark!
My favorite locals in Algarve: Lagos, Portimão, Albufeira, Vilamoura/Quinta do lago/ Vale do Lobo( the chic part) and Tavira.
I was there when it was winter
Great talk, thru needed some clips of the locations and places spoken about.
Really enjoyed this interview, Capetown and Portugal , my two favourite spots in the world.
So interesting hearing Nicks story, really love his vlogs and enjoy your interviews with people, fascinating hearing what people have achieved in their lives….thank you 😎
sell with a profit in a few years 😂 let’s hope we still gonna be able to own a home in a few years
Great interview! We’ve been expats in the Middle East since beginning of 2015. Now there’s a possibility our brand can create a living for us we’re very interested in making the move from Dubai to Portugal! Really enjoying your channel!
poor country portugal not good salaries in portugal
Glad Nick mentioned the staring. Arrived a few days ago in Portugal and certainly noticed it. Seem to be the only expat in the area at the moment. Disconcerting indeed, coming from the UK.
Take them to the capital 😂 Bracara Augusta
Unlike many of the nitwits like roninblue and other vbloggers sourcing from stock film and google search, this guy has actually lived it.
Pity the Portuguese government have just restricted Brits from coming there unless vaccinated. We were going to come for holiday with the view to moving there but now we won't be doing that. Quite a bit of revenue will be lost now I suspect as quite a few people will not come due to this discrimination
